We had the good fortune of connecting with Jared Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jared, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My original thought behind starting my business was not for it to become a business, I just wanted to take cool pictures and join a community of creatives in my hometown. I wanted to try something different that I had not done before, nor have my friends or family have done. Once I started, I quickly realized that this is something I could make a career out of. If I consistently study, practice, and learn, I could become great at this skill. Rapidly growing into my craft, the hobby quickly turned into a business.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Graduating with an Industrial Design degree, I wanted a job where I can put that to use. I currently work at a design company called TaxaOutdoors based in Houston, Tx. Being a designer and a photographer, the skills go hand in hand. Even through my profession, I am able to bring my photography skills to the table, which is one thing I love about working for this company. I believe having strong belief in reaching goals set for yourself in life will motivate you to do everything you need to do to succeed. I am most proud of how I am able to do everything I say I want to do. I am even more proud that I hit those goals earlier than expected. It allows me to look in the mirror and realize that I am doing what I’m supposed to do. Lessons learned along the way include being patient, being a student of knowledge, and being respectful of the craft and the things that come with it. Everything will not always be peaches and cream, so you have to prepare yourself for how you will handle things that don’t go as planned. I want the world to know that if you want to achieve something, make it happen. The only person that could hold you back from reaching your goals is yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Alright so let’s break this down, we got a week to explore Houston. Depending on the time of day you arrive, you may be tired from traveling, so you don’t want to do too much your first day, you got to eat something at the least. We going to Lost & Found first night. The scenery there is amazing, food is off the chain, and drinks are real good too! You might want to go out to a nice lounge to grab another drink later that night, we going to Nomad, or Z on 23. Next day we definitely going to Breakfast Klub or Phil & Dereks for brunch, then to Menil Park to check out some art & history. Depending on the season we may be able to catch a Astros or Rockets game. Also while in town, its a must you check out the art district, Montrose district, and of course visit the Galleria. Top restaurant spots are Bisou, Steak 48, Mastros, State Fare, Capital Grille, and Taste of Texas. Things to do would include visiting the aquarium downtown, IPIC, Seismique museum, IFLY, Science and Art museum, and the Rodeo.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my beautiful wife for being by my side from the very beginning of me picking up a camera. I want to shoutout my family for uplifting me and encouraging me to stick with it and grow within the skill. I want to shoutout all my close friends who allowed me to practice my skill with them, promote my business, and continue to support everything I do even today. Without these key pieces in life, success means nothing. Even though you are the creative, the one building the foundation, those ones who support you the most are the ones who water that foundation to make it grow even more.
