We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasilyn Lauderdale and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasilyn, what principle do you value most?
The value that matters the most to myself and my brand is authenticity and honesty. In beauty, I feel as though there is truly no right or wrong way to do it. That is the beauty and freedom that comes with being a Makeup Artist, its for passionately creative minds. However, I strongly believe there is an ethical and unethical way to go about things. I pride myself and my brand in being open and honest, while educating my clients on product selection and creating their own beauty standards while staying true and authentic to themselves. I think being unapologetically who you are is the purest, bravest, and most beautiful thing any woman can ever do. Being apart of an extremely large, and at times, over saturated industry, it is very important for me to authentically show up as the woman I know God created me to be.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Being a makeup artist to me, is an expression of art, beauty and freedom. I think what sets me apart from a lot of other artist is my passionate approach to educating my clients on product selection, good makeup habits and helping them create their own beauty standard to start and maintain beyond me doing their makeup. I like to share the knowledge I have gained being in the industry for almost 5 years. I like to enhance my clients natural beauty in a way that is going to make them feel like their best self all the time, not just after their appointment with me, but everyday. I credit all my success to God without him, I am nothing. It has not been an easy road, I think a few of the greatest lessons I learned thus far is to be mindful of the company you keep, always keep God first, and to make time for those who make time for you. I want people to know that its okay to be good to others even if people haven’t always been good to you, if your ways please God, you will be blessed regardless, so treat people with good intentions always.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shoutout to my support system! First, thanks to God for giving me the gift and wisdom he gave me. I would also love to shoutout the company Zaya Boutique, and owners Tamieka Aaron and Nausear Brown for trusting and believing in me enough to let me operate in my gift and be the Head Makeup Artist on set for photoshoots and events for the company. I would also love to thank my family, my dad, Larry, and my stepmom, Shamon, my mom, Tammie, my sisters & brothers .TaShawn, Barbara, Desiree, DeShaun and Devin for never doubting that I could be anything I wanted to be. And big shoutout to Juanyee Aaron for not only believing in me, but pushing me out of my comfort zone & showing up for me in every way possible. I love you guys. And most importantly, thank you to every one that has gotten their makeup or brows done by me, thank you for trusting me with your beauty, and investing in me & my craft. Thank you for the support, the feedback, prayers, and all the love, I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
