Meet Jasmine Shawnte Morgan | Mother, Blogger & IT Professional

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Shawnte Morgan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
To know whether to keep going or to give up is not an easy process because when it gets tough that’s when you want to give up but that’s exactly when you shouldn’t give up. I gave up quite frequently and I would always regret it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am in the process of switching careers, going from retail into tech. I have always been a learned and wanted to challenge myself to go for more. So I went back to school, currently attending Southern New Hampshire University, to get the tools necessary to make my career switch successful. The challenges that I have met with is being faced with homelessness and living out of my car for 4 months. I wanted to give up on school and even met individuals who tried to convince me to give up on school. That was never an option for me as I would do my homework in the local Starbucks or McDonald’s to complete my work and I would drive for Uber eats to make enough money for gas and food for my daughter and I. I knew that if I gave up on what I was pursuing I would regret it and even when tough was tough I never did.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My city is amazing and I am glad that I moved here. Coming from a small town and moving to a big city brought challenges. I would love to go out into nature and explore the natural views and experiences as Houston has tons of trails and parks such as Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. I would go to Camp Houston, Post Houston and Exhale Hookah Bar & Cafe to bring out the best vibes and food. For breakfast visit First Watch for the best pancakes and bacon and A 2nd Cup for coffee. Then tour The City Walk and the Galleria for the best shopping and entertainment. Houston Zoo, Urban Harvest Farmers Market, and discovery Green is a fantastic spot for attractions. Then the Houston Toyota Center for all the games such as the Houston Rockets.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my two big and very grown children (sometimes) Isabell and Joshua who have inspired me to keep living life and pursue my dreams. My success came from my mother. Our relationship had it’s up’s and down’s but truly she supported me more than I knew and held me down when I needed it the most. My mother kept me in her prayers and allowed me to be transformed into the woman I am today. I also would like to thank my papa who is no longer here and I miss him truly. He gave me the strength to carry on when life had gotten hard for me and I wouldn’t know how truly strong I am if it weren’t for him. The book that helped inspire me is called “Crush it” by Gary V. At the time I did not know that I would be writing my own story and that I to can also ‘Crush it’.
