We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmiune Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmiune, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor or component behind the success of my business thus far is my interpersonal skills.

I’ve been in business for almost a year now. Within this year, my goal was to present my product (Sauce Cubes) to consumers at local Farmers Markets all over Houston to gain feedback, explain my “why” face to face, and develop relationships & network with different people.

I have a very simple & convenient online ordering system on my website, but some people prefer to get their products in person just so that they could converse & be greeted by my bubbly personality.

I’ve also took this time to redevelop & perfect every aspect of my brand to my expectations. I was indecisive on changing my personal logo to a more simple text but received a lot of feedback on keeping the logo the way it is because it’s very personable. Different people & professionals explained how they enjoy knowing who’s making these unique culinary products by just looking at the logo.

My personality has allowed me to connect to so many people & gain a great following. This lovely component is something that isn’t taught, I’m just being my true self while making cooking easier and educating people through my food products. The best feeling ever!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
JazzyJ’s Creations LLC is a business founded by Jasmiune Matthews aka Chef JazzyJ. I graduated from The Culinary Institute of America with a Bachelors in Business Management and a concentration in Farm to Table. JazzyJ’s Creations has two main goals; to create Unique Culinary Products and Unique Culinary Experiences. My goal is to transfer as much food knowledge as I possibly can to consumers to aid better life choices and a cleaner environment. With this, I hope to create happiness and endless memories through the joy of food. I create unique culinary products high in quality that are easy, convenient, and health forward for anyone to use. I also create unique culinary experiences to build relationships and create unity within our local communities.

My first launch of Unique Culinary Products is a product called, Sauce Cubes. Sauce Cubes are homemade sauces that I freeze into portion-controlled cubes so that each cube is a serving of sauce. All consumers have to do is melt the cube in a sauce pan, add their pasta, meat, or veggies, and their done for dinner in minutes. Sauce Cubes teaches people waste management, portion control, and how to make better food choices since all of my sauces are made from under 7 organic ingredients. Sauce Cubes are great for anyone to use wether you know how to cook or just know how to cook the basics. Sauce Cubes has received great feedback thus far & I can’t wait to share it with a wider audience. Sauce Cubes are available for purchase on my website, or at a Farmers Market in or around Houston.

Owning a business is a beautiful process if you’re willing to learn on the job, fail, & most importantly, BE PATIENT (something I had to learn FAST).

It’s not an easy process, especially if you don’t have a decent budget or help. I have to do everything myself by doing a lot of research, testing things out, taking risks, & getting back up if something fails. Everything is on you, but success is the only option.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OMG there’s so many great things to do, see, & eat in Houston! I get a little frustrated when I find out about a new or old place I haven’t heard of or seen before. This is why I love H-Town!

Anyway, I would definitely take my friend to a morning Farmers Market. Being a vendor myself, I didn’t realize how many great Farmers Markets we have here. My favorite Farmers Market is Braeswood Farmers Market (where I actually started JazzyJ’s Creations).

I’m also a huge foodie (obviously) & so are my friends lol so I would take them to different food trucks, bars, & restaurants everyday. We would definitely throw down some Cajun boiled seafood at LA Fishermen accompanied by a frozen daiquiri from either Eskimo Hut or Bourbon St. Daiquiris.

& of course you can’t come to Houston or anywhere in the dirty South without eating Pappadeux or Pappasitos. There’s also so many cool bars like Secret Garden, Kamp Houston, Avant Garden, & more!

To relax & be one with self, I would book some yoga & meditation classes at Soul Tribe or Black Swan Yoga. My ulitimate favorite thing is going to wine tastings at one of our few wineries such as Bernhardt Winery, or taking a walk at any of the beautiful trails we have around here.

I started a note in my iPhone on things to do and places to drink or dine at in Houston because options are limitless. My friend would leave happy, relaxed, & full.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Mother. My mom will forever be my number one supporter, best friend, mentor, admiration, & most importantly…the best mother ever. She’s the reason I am a strong-educated entrepreneur today. She taught me to always ask “why” & question things that doesn’t make sense, do my own research, & accomplish my dreams & goals to live the life that I want to live.
