We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was ready 3 things for me:
1- What can I do to give me experience running my own business before helping others do the same.
2- What am I good at doing? Oh, for me it was Pecan Candy aka Pralines.
3- Can this business be tied to protecting and preserving my creole culture/ family roots?
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Career wise, I have been in telecom for most of my adult life. Currently, I am over a region of retail stores for one of the largest telecom providers in the US. I would be lying if I said it was easy to get where I am. I’m not a big fan double standards. I am big on intentions and energy when it comes to people. If things do not feel right, I will make it known in a positive and effective way. Some have told me to shut up, but speaking up has enabled me to overcome these obstacles to create my brand as a professional and drive me to create my own company.
The lesson I learned was to never dim your light to make others feel comfortable!
I want the world to know that honesty and education is at the forefront of who I and my company are!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm where to start: Tacos Tierra Caliente Food Truck
Cyclones Midtown
Glorias Midtown
Max Wine & Dive
Prospect Park
Brunch
Phil. & Derek’s
The Address
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my tribe of friends and family. Also, I want to give a special shoutout to Cajun Nation, T-Beaux’s Roux, Zydeceaux Fish Fry, and Kirrstons Kollections for being beacons of light on my journey as an Entrepreneur.
