We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is the best thing anyone can do. If i hadn’t taken a risk and quit my 9-5 job, I would’ve never found out how successful I would be as a business owner. When I took that risk I had no choice but to keep it pushing and only look forward & never backwards. Nothing else matters but your determination & ambition. If you want it so bad, take the risk in yourself, create your own reality.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a baby stylist entering the beauty industry, it can be very scary. You have an ambition to be better but you’re also still learning- and thats okay. Thats the main thing that you need to remember and be okay with – always learning. If you give up when you make a mistake, you wont be successful. I made it where I am today by never being too comfortable and always being open to learning more. It isn’t easy pleasing everyone, especially in the beauty world. Everyone has different views, opinions & comments about what their meaning of “beauty” is. So never feeling bad about an error but taking it as a lesson learned and fixing it in the future. Things happen, mistakes happen, we’re all human! But the only way to have a successful business is to never give up, continue to learn & fix your mistakes.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie was in town visiting I would take her on a cute brunch date with mimosas and some delicious chicken & waffles! We would then proceed go shopping at the galleria or downtown shops! Maybe hit the park and enjoy the sun, if its as hot as it is now then hit the rooftop pools! After that we would make our way to dinner at popadeux! Finishing our night with a walk back to downtown to hit up my all time favorite bar, the standard!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has been my biggest supporters in everything i’ve done. My dad always pushing me to chase my dreams and make it as far as I can. My mother whom always pushes me to better myself and keeps me on my toes when im feeling overwhelmed. My sister who always believes in me & my crazy ideas, whom always models for me when needed and motivates me. I work hard to one day be able to fully provide for my family in ways they never even imagined. I am motivated entirely by wanting a luxurious successful life for my niece especially, but also for my family & others. Im driven by wanting to be a helping hand to those who may need it. Thanks to God himself, each day I get closer to my goal.
