We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayyy P and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayyy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Sooo many reasons, I realized I wanted to control the source of my income, not have the source of my income control me. It’s 2022 and most 9-5’s still do not value the employees that fuel their companies. The ability to dedicate and dictate the time and effort to build up things that are important to me, like my family and friends. I am hell bent on not living to survive nor surviving to live, I would like to just live and enjoy. Most importantly though to pour into others, I have learned that there’s sooo much love, kindness and respect missing from the lives of those who look like me, and I would like to have a hand in informing or reminding them that you deserve that! And if nobody in your life does that for you, I will.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m trying so hard to remove myself from corporate America, but what I can say is that I have learned how to operate in spaces differently than the space I was raised in. I’ve learned how to lead, take accountability for others and myself, that patience is key when dealing with human beings and what not to do when running your own business lol. They pay me so I’m here until I’m able to surpass on my own, what my job provides.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Welllll I live in Houston, Texas meaning there’s something to do 24/7, 365! First things first, shopping. You can’t come to the H and not go to the galleria; I mean who does that? Next, we eat! I love to try different places because there are so many locally owned restaurants here, our top three would be The Burger Joint in Montrose, my favorite taco truck, The Birria Queen and of course, the famous Turkey Leg Hut. I like to mix up my activities, sometimes I do physical things like bowling at Bowlmor, Top Golf (although I suck) and riding the electric scooters downtown late at night, it’s really refreshing. When I would rather not be as physical but still step out on the town, venturing to Bar 5015 is a must (try the voodoo rolls) or my absolute favorite, The Address. But just to make sure we have to refresh and reset I would take a walk through Memorial Park Conservancy, it’s like a slice of nature smack in the middle of Houston.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shoutout my grandfather. He passed away some time ago, but he planted a seed in my life that I continue to water and grow. It’s been a roller coaster ride learning how to run a business, and I can’t help but thank him for mantra that I have deeply rooted into myself. My mom would be next shout, she embodies what it means to be a Little Rich Black Girl! She is loving, super sweet and she pushes me to go for whatever my head and heart comes up with, even if she doesn’t necessarily agree. I know that with that type of support, there’s no way I will ever let my dreams die, no matter what happens. She will never allow me to give up.
