We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeffery Huynh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeffery, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Coming into this career my number one goal or principal is education. When my husband and I first bought our home 8 years ago we didn’t know anything. We had a Realtor but I guess since our home was a new build she kind of just let it go on auto pilot. She didn’t go to any of the inspections or explain where we were at any point in the process. It was just us and the builders. We even ended up going to our closing by ourselves. It was very scary for 2 people who had no idea what were were doing and it really stuck with me. I don’t want any one I know or am representing to feel lost like we were. I actively have been doing New Buyer Seminars once a quarter and any new client I get I make sure to set aside some time to explain what is going to happen and some terms they need to be aware of. Buying a home is a very expensive and emotional process and I’ve noticed by educating people before we start they feel more at ease and inclined to ask questions as we progress.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love my career. I was in the apartment industry before this and did both the leasing and management side. Both sides were fun but I always enjoyed myself the most hearing what people were looking for. You got to be a part of their lives. See what they wanted. Hear why they wanted it. And after all of that you get to help find a way to fit it all together. It was always so rewarding being a part of something so big and knowing you played a part in that. It got to the point that I didn’t want to do it for just apartments. I wanted to help people make those BIG life changes. I wanted to be there when they were ready to get their first home. To start their families. To find the perfect location for that work/life balance. The number 1 thing that will set me apart from any other Realtor is the amount of compassion I bring when I’m helping you find a home. It’s a big step and I definitely don’t want you to have an experience like mine was.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s the great thing about Houston. There is always something to do. The number one spot I would like to go to with any one from out of town is The Post. It is just an awesome and creative way to use a space that was doing nothing for years! There is amazing food, cute little shops to check out, and an awesome roof top deck with great views of the city from all directions. It is easily my new favorite Houston Spot to check out. The next place I would take my guest would be a couple of my favorite parks. I would start at the Miller Outdoor Theater and just kind of show them around the area. The cool thing with Miller Outdoor Theater is you could easily spend a day just checking it out and everything around it. You have The Zoo, the Museum, and the McGovern Centennial Gardens all surrounding this amazing location that already comes with a Reflection Pond and a Japanese Garden. Not to mention there are Pokestops all through out. And lastly, I would spend a couple days showing them all the cool desert and food places in Houston. I love Boba so I would probably make sure to check out Tiger Sugar and Happy Lemon before my guests left.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been volunteering with the local non-profit organization, Houston Gaymers, for the past 12 years. They have been probably the number 1 cause of my success. I’ve been helping organize and facilitate events for so long and made so many long lasting connections. When I told people I was switching careers it was the members from Houston Gaymers that reached out to me first and were genuinely excited to not only see me switch into something I was passionate about but also happy to have me as some one who could represent them. I had an amazing first year and I would not be here with out the love and support I received from the members of Houston Gaymers!
