Meet Jena Simmons | Curly Hair Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jena Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jena, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Im from a small town called Lake Charles, in Louisiana. I was raised by my mom. I didnt have a relationship with my dad soe I grew up watching my mom being everything our family needed and more. She made sure we didn’t want for anything. I think my background and upbringing impacted who I am today because I can see the importance behind finding something your passionate about, Having joy in even the hard things and truly doing things and giving your 110%. It shaped my why.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Im a curly hair specialist with a gift to be able to do all hair textures from straight to coily. Im excited about see the Lord do things in my business that I never imagined.

Everything I have is because of God. I just try to walk in obedience. When it was time for me to go to cosmetology school I didnt have $18,000 so God made a way. Its hard to look back and not give all the credit to the Lord.

This industry hasnt been easy, Ive been put in uncomfortable situations and pushed out of my comfort zone many times but there is no reward without risks. I overcame challenges by trusting, by reaching out to those close to me and by prayer.

Ive learned that change is good. That choosing the path that isnt taken by most people is good. Ive learned that ive been uniquely placed where I am for a reason. I’ve learned that even if things may be hard its just for a season. Light always shines

I want people to know that apart from Jesus we are nothing. Nothing is more important. To those who may sit in my chair I want them to know that they are loved and cared for and arent just another way to pay a bill. I have such a passion for people and doing hair so I want people to know that if they need a shoulder to cry or laugh on, im here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I probably would take them to memorial herman park for a walk, the zoo, puttshack, or to an astros game

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I give all the glory to God. Jesus met me at a very low point in my life and turned my life around. I wouldn’t be where im at without God. I want to thank my husband. He is a gift straight from heaven. Without his love in all seasons, support and constant encouragement I wouldnt have pursued this career. Shout out to my moms for reminding me who God created me to be.
