We had the good fortune of connecting with Jericka Lathers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jericka, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe that its two factors that contribute to my success as well as brand! The first one would have to be my passion for my career. I have been a hairstylist since 2014 and honestly I can’t see myself doing anything else. I love what I do and that plays a huge role when you are trying to succeed in what you do. When you do not enjoy something, you tend not to put your all in it and it lacks the character of making it your own. Which means at some point you’re doing it solely for the money. When working for the money, you began to do things that don’t really make sense. Which sometimes can ruin your brand. The second factor would be customer service, I believe having good customer service plays a big part on how well your business will do. Your customers are the ones that make you rich, You must be able to get on their good side to keep them coming back for more. Rather the product is good or not, how you handle the situation makes all the difference. Its the customer relations that keep the business going.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am current the owner of two businesses. I am the owner of Hair By Trademark LLC, which house the Hair By Trademark Extensions and Hair By Trademark Studios ( a salon/storefront) in the Louisiana area. Also the co-owner of Lathers Equipment Service LLC, which is a service based company that works on heavy equipment with my dad. Getting to the position I am now was not easy. It took me 6 years to receive my master barber licensed as well as getting a college degree at the exact same time. I finished both in 2020 during the pandemic. I was wanted to give up so many times definitely college because I felt like i didn’t needed to go to become successful, definitely since I was already in my career. But the Southern University A&M College prepared me for the real world and earning a bachelor in Business Management set me up to be able to run my business the proper way. I have learn that writing your goals out and surrounding yourself with energy that will help you continue to push forward will help you go a long way. Everyone is not going to be able to see your vision and that’s okay, Its not meant for everyone to see what God got plan for you. It’s up to you to deliver that vision once its given to you. I decided i wanted to open up my own salon in December on 2020, I was able to sign my lease in March and able to open in June and my business and been flourishing since then. It wasn’t easy but i did a lot of mediation, self discipline, and hard work to get to this point.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in Louisiana, their isn’t much to do. I usually travel to them than inviting them here. But i would show them what the best things to do down here. I love food so we will have to go to Tsumani , which is sushi spot downtown with an amazing view as well as an amazing happy hour! If Southern University is having a home game that’s the place to be during football season. Taking them enjoy some good soul food from Dorothy’s Kitchen, a fresh smoothie from Paradise Smoothie off George O’neal, and maybe end a night at Dead Poet for a good time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my first shoutout is God! He honestly lead all of my footsteps to get to the point I am right now. I didn’t see a lot of this in my future but he did. And listening to him and allowing him to guide me and lead to an overflow of success and I’m only at the beginning. Also friends and family for just believing in me and helping where I needed it the most. Joining communities such as Girl CEO and Kingdom Bosses has definitely influence me to continue to push forward and don’t ever give up.
