We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Reynolds and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what do you attribute your success to?
Being able to show up as your authentic self. Anyone who is able to do that for a living, being your authentic self, is winning at life. To be able to be confident in my abilities and use those skills to help people is what it is to be successful and to create a successful brand.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Purple Couch was established in October of 2019, it was not easy and I was working three jobs as a single mother, trying to launch a vision I had. To overcome the challenges, to have my visions become a reality, I was clear on my intentions on what I wanted my vision to become and I wasn’t afraid to ask for help. Purple is the color of royalty, I wanted to use that as a platform to discover the royalty within ourselves so that we can raise higher instead of staying stuck. I also wanted, and have strived to de-stigmatize the misconceptions of mental health in black and other communities of color.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite taco truck in San Antonio is Eric’s Tacos, every time I have their chicken fajita tacos, it brings me back to life. I love to go to The Pearl and check out all the new spots that pop up. The environment and the people are always so beautiful to be around. Eisenhower Park is another wonderful place that I like to go hiking; it almost takes you to another world to walk the trails.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The original shoutout goes to my mother, the matriarch! She is the reason I can do what I do, the one person that is always in my corner and cheering me on throughout my entire journey. I wouldn’t be the woman, mother, and therapist I am today without her. And my daughters, Jaliyah and Bria, who are the driving force for everything I do.
Another shoutout to my Purple Couch Tribe— Natalina, Joelisse, and Jordan—who has made the Purple Couch what it is today. The hard work and determination of these wonderful women allow us to provide services to our community.
I would also like to shoutout Kelly Logans-Ali, LCSW-S who was a mentor for me while I was gaining my clinical hours. I appreciate her believing in me and helping me grow in my clinical skills.
I’m grateful to have made friendships with people who match my vibe in entrepreneurship like Dionne Coleman, Tina McGowan, Damien Dennis, and Soco Reynoso.
