We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Rose Huang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica Rose, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Fear of failure births analysis paralysis. If we allow ourselves to only move forward out of our comfort zone when it appears conditions are ‘all in the clear’, we’ll move at a snail’s pace. Drying out in the heat of the sun, wondering why we didn’t get anywhere.

Increasing risk tolerance allows room for SUCCESS. To go, right now, regardless if conditions are perfect. By taking risks, we allow ourselves the opportunity to grow and succeed. Smooth seas don’t make a skilled sailor. Without risk, the reward will not be great.

Public service can come with heavy backlash when making decisions on the lives of others. We take on the risk of being judged, ridiculed, hated and even threatened. Under pressure, decision making must be done without compromise.
When facing risk of ridicule, integrity must be at the utmost forefront of a public servant’s mind. Integrity must always be a priority, no matter what. We must stand for what is right and just. It’s facing fear in the eyes and not backing down. I’d rather not have a reputation to uphold but rather uphold what is right.
If a soldier can die for our freedom, I can face the consequences of doing ‘the right thing’. Soldiers take the greatest risk, losing their life. Is our reputation worth more than a soldier’s life? Is our fear greater than fighting for our freedom? I hope not.
We don’t live our lives for ourselves. We live our lives for the needs of others. For service, for our family, for freedom.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As food shortages increase, food prices will hike. Texans are going to look for alternative ways to feed themselves. Running a farmers’ market is my incognito way of fortifying our community with a sustainable food source. At the moment, I’m meeting with leaders and decision makers who can make direct impact in Texas about upcoming food shortages. It doesn’t take any convincing of the matter. My hope in these discussions is to inspire progressive problem solving to prevent a reactive consequence due to lack of planning. It’s really pertinent to have a mitigation plan in place when thousands of Texans will feel the heat of increased food prices. Every level of government, every industry, and all sectors of our society should look within their scope of practice and configure plans in the event this takes place in the future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Vote with the dollar. Local is such an easy way to make a huge impact in our local economy. I went to Da Vinci Restaurante Italiano in Katy recently. The food is superb, the atmosphere is artistically epic.

Go to your local Farmers Market. There are so many in Houston. Small business owners would love to see you! Farmers Markets are all throughout the week, even weekdays.
Small towns in Texas love festivals! Columbus, TX just had their Magnolia days. Lots of traditions to celebrate in Texas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
In the spirit of risk, I admire my husband for teaching me to move forward quickly when things go awry. His frequent go-to phrase is “Don’t should on yourself”. It makes me laugh, but in reality, it sets my mindset to learn quickly and move on. Regret is limerence in disguise, so desiring for the past to change but never will. A driver can’t continue forward staring in the rear-view mirror.
