We had the good fortune of connecting with Jevon Wooden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jevon, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand, BrightMind Consulting Group, is vulnerability. This might sound counterintuitive in the business world, where strength and confidence are often heralded as the keys to success. However, embracing vulnerability has been a game-changer for me, and here’s why:
1) Vulnerability Opens the Door for New Partnerships and Opportunities: In the services industry, especially in business consulting and coaching, building strong relationships is crucial. When I show vulnerability, it creates a space for authenticity and trust. This openness has allowed me to form partnerships that might not have been possible otherwise. For instance, in discussing the challenges of integrating technology in traditional business models, I’ve had conversations that revealed shared struggles with potential partners. This mutual understanding led to collaborations that have been instrumental in driving growth. Vulnerability, in this sense, becomes a bridge connecting diverse minds, fostering a symbiosis where each party can contribute and benefit.
2) Makes Not Knowing Everything Okay: In my journey as an entrepreneur, author, and speaker, I’ve learned that it’s impossible to have all the answers. Early in my career, I felt pressure to be infallible, but I realized this mindset was more limiting than empowering. Admitting that I don’t know everything opened me to learning from others, including my team, peers, and clients. It encouraged a culture where seeking help is viewed as a strength, not a weakness. This approach not only broadens my knowledge base but also enhances the collective intelligence of my network. It’s a powerful tool in problem-solving and innovation, allowing me to access diverse perspectives and expertise.
3) Establishing Connections with Competitors: Vulnerability has played a crucial role in how I connect with other business leaders and owners, some of whom are seen as competitors in the traditional sense. By being open about challenges and fears, I have found common ground with these individuals. This has led to meaningful dialogues and sometimes collaborative efforts where we leverage each other’s strengths. Such connections have been invaluable, providing insights into market strategies, leadership styles, and business models. It fosters a community over competition mindset, which is vital in today’s interconnected business environment.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Absolutely, I’d be happy to share more about BrightMind Consulting Group and the journey that brought us here.
What Sets Us Apart
BrightMind Consulting Group is more than just a consulting firm; it’s a testament to the power of strategic growth and transformative leadership. What sets us apart is our unique blend of military precision and business acumen. With my background as a U.S. Army Veteran and an academic foundation in cybersecurity and business management, we approach each project with discipline, strategic planning, and cutting-edge technological insight. Our focus is not just on achieving short-term goals but on building sustainable, long-term growth and development for our clients.
Our Pride and Excitement
I am most proud of the impact we’ve made on our clients’ journeys. Witnessing businesses transform, watching leaders develop their potential, and seeing ideas turn into successful ventures – these moments are incredibly fulfilling. We’re excited about continuously evolving and incorporating the latest technology and strategies to offer top-notch services.
Our Journey to Success
The path to where we are today was not a straight line; it was filled with learning curves and obstacles. Identifying ways to be seen in a noisy world was the hardest part. I had to pivot a few times to attain success. My company initially focused on personal development as a mindset coaching firm called Live Not Loathe. I realized that my target demographic, which was minority men in leadership roles, didn’t really seek help back in 2017. Thankfully, that has changed in recent years, and black men are now more focused on mental health and the healing journey. BrightMind Consulting Group was born from that pivot, and now I incorporate what we did with Live Not Loathe into my leadership and business consulting work to expedite success for my clients.
Overcoming Challenges
The biggest challenges were navigating the initial stages of business setup, finding the right clients, and establishing a brand presence in a competitive market. We overcame these through persistent networking, continuous learning, and staying true to our core values. Adapting quickly to market changes and customer needs also played a crucial role.
Lessons Learned
One key lesson is that adaptability and continuous learning are crucial for survival and growth in business. Another is the importance of building a solid team with diverse skills and perspectives. Lastly, always keep the client’s best interests at heart – their success is our success.
Our Message to the World
What I want the world to know about BrightMind Consulting Group is that we’re not just a business – we’re a partner in your growth journey. We understand the challenges of navigating the business world, and we’re here to offer solutions and a guiding hand, leveraging our extensive experience and expertise. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll dedicate my shoutout to my inner circle that has allowed me to lean on them when I do not have the strength to take on the adversity that comes with this journey alone. That list includes my wife, my mother, my siblings, and my friends, who are more like family.
