We had the good fortune of connecting with Joanne Tang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joanne, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
To me, success means creating a business that empowers customers, employees, and community in equal measure. We want to add positive value to people’s lives, from a personal and professional standpoint.
What should our readers know about your business?
My parents used to own a hair salon in Vietnam and I’ve helped them out since my teenage years. After that, I took over the business and gained more experiences along the way. After several years of working, I learn to appreciate and enjoy my career even more. I started my career as a nail technician when I came to America in 1998 and have opened multiple shops in the Houston area, from Memorial to central northwest Houston areas. Nails by Yen is a full-service beauty salon dedicated to consistently providing high customer satisfaction by rendering excellent service, quality products, and furnishing an enjoyable atmosphere. We also maintain a friendly, fair, and creative work environment, which respects diversity, ideas, and hard work. We provide all kind of nail services, facial, and wax. We were one of the top first nail salon in Sugar Land, TX to offer NexGen Gel, a safe and healthy alternative to acrylic nails: One that would add length, protection and shine, without the damage that acrylics can cause. I’m proud that my business is well-established for over 20 years. Most of our customers have been with us for over 20 years and we’re thankful that they’ve recommended our business to the community. Word of mouth is the best advertising so we really appreciate everyone who have supported us in the past and still do so now. What sets us apart from others is that we have a great support system and management. Also, we provide complimentary wi-fi, as well as drinks (sodas, water, and wine) for our customers so they can feel pamper while getting their services done.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite spots in Houston is to take a stroll on Buffalo Bayou trails and enjoy Mother Nature. I also enjoy taking a day trip to Galveston and wander through the historic downtown and dine at the seaside restaurant. Last, but not least Sugar Land is one of the top contender. I like to walk around Sugar Land Town Square to do some shopping and relax in the lawn by the City Hall.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
