We had the good fortune of connecting with Roland Champaine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roland, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I guess my thought process of becoming an artist, in my opinion, really wasn’t something I had to really think about.
I knew early on that I was different, as far as sticking to the norm of having a stable secure job to make ends meet.
My passion for music and entertaining has always been embedded in me. The only thought process I had was whether or not I could become who I knew I could be as an artist, songwriter and entertainer.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets you apart from others?
I think what sets me a part from others is that I have adopted the mindset of getting things done with or without. When it comes down to it, I know how to make a way when there’s no way.
What are you most proud of or excited about?
As of today my most exciting and proudest moment would have to be the release of my new single “Wine Yo Body”. This record was something very new for me when it came to the tempo and sound. My last project released was my 2019 EP, “BLXNDE SUMMERS” and even though I love the songs on that project, it was safe for me. With this new record, it’s a more polished radio sound that capitalizes on song structure and vocal placement.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I got to where I am today by trusting God and the vision he’s allowed me to see. On the coo, at some point I just had to realize that my vision and my dream isn’t for everybody to understand. And to be honest, sometimes I myself won’t even understand but that’s when my faith and knowing my purpose kicks in. It’s not easy being told no over and over again. It’s not easy being overlooked. It’s not easy being criticized. But through all of that, I knew that Gods plan for me was bigger than what I could imagine. So if the process he has designed for me is made up of a few closed doors that leads to the PERFECT opportunity then sign me up.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
The one lesson I’ve learned and stand on, is that you have to be clear and concise on what it is you will and will not do. I have given so many people the opportunity to waste my time thinking they‘ll be an asset to my brand and my promotion as an artist when in actuality they don’t have a clue where to start. I’m at a point now where I’m not accepting excuses, only solutions.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
The one thing I want the the world to know about Roland Champaine is that I’m just like you. I have struggles that I deal with daily and I’m just trying to figure it out. But that’s ok. It’s ok to mess up and start over. Don’t be afraid to start over until you get it right.
As far as my brand, I’m representin’ for those who ain’t gotta say too much or do too much. Mmm you see it lol
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man on the coo, I’m the last friend to call if you trynna step out lol. I’m a home body. I love chillin at the crib enjoying my space.
But if I just had to be a host for the weekend, we’ll probably see what the Turkey Let Hut hittin for or find a nice brunch spot to chill at. I’m very simple. As long as we can relax, whether that be inside or outside, I got you
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To be honest, I really wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for God. You know, this journey of trying to become an “established artist” isn’t easy. There are times where you don’t know what to do or what’s next. But the fact that my relationship with God is getting stronger and I’m learning how to lean on him, makes it all worth it. Being that my faith is secure, I can enter into a situation not knowing and still come out successful because I know who holds tomorrow.
As far as those around me, I owe my career to my Alma Mater; Prairie View A&M University. I’ve met so many beautiful, PRODUCTIVE and talented people that have helped me get to this point. PV will always have a special place in my heart. Mama raised me but PV made me!
