We had the good fortune of connecting with Joe and Bianca Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joe and Bianca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It really all just started by working the local farmers market during the peak of the pandemic, we started making friends with other vendors and getting familiar with different products they sold and really just getting educated on all types of food. That coupled with our weight loss journey was how Local HTX Tacos was born. We wanted to be a source of organic all natural ingredients and still have that street flavor that most desire.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My wife and I still hold two full time jobs while we continue build our own company Local HTX Tacos. I’m a project manager with Ace Mart Restaurant Supply and Bianca is in Food and Beverage at the Marriott Marquis Downtown.
I believe that’s what sets us apart from other popups is that we still keep our 9-5 jobs, raise our daughter and keep popping up at different locations with Local HTX Tacos. We tend to find strength in each other to continue everyday its not easy but we find it rewarding when we do our popups and our followers aka “Tacofam” are there to support us and come get there taco fix.

We love sharing our story when people ask why the name “Local HTX” its what we specialize in, using only local meats and produce and taking care of small local business means alot to us! Supporting us is also supporting them we go full circle and keeping it Houston base.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston is not the biggest tourist city compared to others, however not only is our community very diverse but because of that it makes our food very diverse as well. Their are so many great spots to eat and hangout. the Heights, Washington Heights, Upper Kirby, Midtown, EaDO are all local hotspots. plenty of good food to go around, Some of our local faves are 401 Local Table, Feges BBQ, Truth BBQ, Dumpling Haus, Star Pizza, just to name a few when it comes to great beer, there are no shortages of local breweries, such as Eureka Heights, New Magnolia, Baileson Brewing, just to name a few. Family and pet friendly in most cases.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would send thanks/Shoutouts to several * Cake and Bacon Wholesale Bakery- for allowing us to participate in selling there product. Without them we would not have even gotten started in this at all.
*Urban Harvest Farmers Market- to all the vendors that we met there, Hive Bee farm, Atkinson Farms, Feges BBQ, Gundermann Farms, Texas Black Gold Garlic, Dumpling Haus, Little Kitchen HTX,
*Bay Area Farmers Market- Gulf Coast Honey Bee Farms, Pam and her husband Dane are some of the finest people I have ever met.
Katerra Exotics Grass Fed Meats,
Clawtel Ranch
Momma Theresa and Uncle Mike with Atkinson Farms in Spring.
Im sure I am forgetting a few 🙁
