We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonny Pride and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonny, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was always exposed to music from a very young age and I picked up the guitar about 13 years ago in Copenhagen, Denmark whilst living abroad. Moving around internationally, I was also exposed to a wide variety of cultures and people each unique and beautiful in different ways, and I loved it all. I always knew I wanted to be a philanthropist to help those who truly are in need of it, and I knew that music is the one medium of communication which is universally unifying in terms of bringing people together who vastly differ from one another. My goal is to be able to give back to those who deserve it, using good music to bring people together.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I like to think of my original material as a convergence of blues and reggae music. I have always been a fan of a wide variety of musical genres but I am particularly fond of those two genres specifically. I am very proud of the team of people I’ve built that are all working together towards a common goal, it’s a great atmosphere and a fun work environment, and in addition to this I am very proud of the release of our first single Hoodoo Voodoo which hit all streaming platforms October 8th of this year. I’m also very excited about all the new original material we will be releasing in the coming months and growing my business to unprecedented heights. It took a long time to grow myself into the professional artist that I am today, and none of it was easy. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to the cause, and if it was easy everyone would do it. Working to become a professional musician teaches more than just how to master one’s craft. It teaches perseverance, and how to work very hard for what you believe in. For me, it’s good music for a good cause.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being a very outdoorsy person, I’d definitely take my friend to visit both the Houston Zoo and Brazos State Park. After which dinner at one of Houston’s finest sushi restaurants, Oiishi, would definitely hit the spot. An afternoon at the Conroe Karting complex is always a good time as well, and afterwards we could head into downtown Conroe to enjoy a drink at one of the local bars like The Corner Pub or one of the breweries as well as enjoying an active nightlife. Conroe is an awesome place to catch an active live music scene, especially on a Friday or Saturday night!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am fortunate enough to have so many supportive friends and family members, that it is difficult to single out a single person. I am only able to keep pursuing this dream through the support of my family giving me a place to stay and food to eat. The hard work and dedication of my close friends and band members, as well as the continued encouragement from my girlfriend, helps me to keep making progress and stay proactive in my pursuit of this goal.
