We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordyn Billingsley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordyn, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
When it comes down to having your own business and being a parent, I believe this has shown our kids the value of commitment and having a passion about something they put their hearts into. A child’s creativity is a huge part of their development, this also allows their minds to figure their own interests out so that they can express who they are. It is important for my husband and I to teach our children that sometimes in life there are things that will cause you to have to take a risk, but if you put your heart and soul into what you are doing then everything else will fall into place My mother always told me I can do anything I put my mind too, and she was right. I know that when my kids see me working hard on my orders that my passion has no limit no matter what it is, and hopefully this encourages them to not be afraid of putting yourself out there.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being able to express yourself through art form to me is the best way to feel free. You have all these ideas that can be so overwhelming in your mind, and when there’s a way for you to express these thoughts and get them out there it can be the best feeling in the world. Imagine a heavy brick on your head pushing down harder every day and there’s nowhere for you to escape. Now that I have this opportunity to share my ideas, that heavy brick is now a feather. Being a creator is almost like a burden if we can’t satisfy it. For me, Decorating is my freedom. I hope other artist get to feel what I now feel because I know that little voice inside my head was exhausting. Now that my freedom for creation is alive, I’m looking forward to so many more things I’m going to accomplish in the coming years. The path of no creation was not easy for me and how I overcame this feeling was to open my mind, push myself and take more risks. I also learned that it’s okay to fail you won’t get anywhere unless you do! I became resilient because life is too short to not chase my dreams. Small businesses have more power than people think, we are the creators of the universe that start small but continue to grow every single day into something bigger. I want people to know that JoJo In The Mix will be something bigger in the future, and hope that my story encourages others to chase their dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting for the week, I would take them to the Board Walk in Town Lake. Making the First Watch, (pun intended) our first stop for brunch and drinks! After walking around the lake and viewing the scenery we would go to Angels Churros N Chocolate. They have the best place to grab a delicious churro with every dipping sauce you could imagine, and more! That following night we would go to Jinya Ramen Bar for dinner. They have great Poke bowls, and Ramen and much more, it’s one of our family’s favorite places to go out to eat. The next day we would go to Union Kitchen in Cypress, another great brunch spot. Followed by trying a unique snack at Krazy Dog, they have out of this world ideas to throw on your corndog! Later that night we would go to Top Sushi for dinner, they have the best sushi rolls! Now it’s time to get a quick breakfast and the best place for that is Karma Kolache, you can’t go wrong with the many different types of kolaches they have. They never disappoint our family and especially the ones who are from out of town and have never heard of a kolache! Later that day we’d take the kids with us and hit up the Rosehill Beer Garden. It’s very family friendly and fun for all. For the night life we usually like to go to Kirby Ice House, Great food, drinks, and entertainment. Towards the end of my friends trip we would have to stop at one of my favorite Mexican places to eat and have margaritas, that is Tequilas. On our last day, the last place and quite honestly one our top favorite places to go to is Kings Beer Haus. It’s a German bar with great craft beer to choose from, different types of foods to try, and our favorite, the garden where the kids can run around while the adults hangout and listen to live entertainment. The kids enjoy meeting other kids there too. We do have many places we like to try. Our area has grown so much over the years, we love to keep trying new things and showing our friends a good time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize my family as I would not be where I am today. They helped encourage me not to give up on what I was going after. I was afraid to step out and be myself. When this business started up, I couldn’t fake it till I made it. I truly had to be me. If I couldn’t be myself while running my own business, then there was no point in having this dream. Having this business helped me be comfortable with who I am and helped me evolve. Of course, my friends were there to help support my dreams. They even went as far as sharing my work with their friends, which helped me, and word of the mouth is such a huge factor in growing your clientele
