We had the good fortune of connecting with Reginald Barefield II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reginald, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been drawn to alternative and Japanese street fashion. When I was a teenager, I was very bold and different with my style than the other kids at school. I was very into internet fashion trends and trends happening in Japan—which lead me to creating my online clothing brand. We offer a collective of fun styles that are unique to anyone who is interested in the aesthetics we provide.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In Control Clothing is an online clothing store that offers alternative and Japanese streetwear clothing. We mix alternative styles with Kawaii, which means cute in Japanese. Our brand has our own line of products and collaborates with artists and vendors to provide the best creative styles. Our passion is offering clothing and accessories to express everyone’s unique aesthetics. We are a size inclusive brand offering sizes up to 5X. Making clothing accessible to the plus size market is so important to us. We want every person who visits our site to feel special, and we strive to give everyone a shopping experience they won’t forget.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably take them to Thai Cottage or the Turkey Leg Hut. Then go walk off the food at the museum of Houston at one of the art exhibits. Lastly, when night falls, head on over to Montrose for a good show and drinks at Hamburger Mary’s

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my brother Allen for introducing me to screen printing and teaching me how to print on textiles. I’d also like to thank my parents, Reginald & Ingrid, as well as my fiancé Eduardo for supporting me throughout all of my endeavors. And a big thank you to all our customers who supported us throughout the years and during the pandemic.
