We had the good fortune of connecting with Joselin Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joselin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being honest, the hardest part of starting my own business was believing in myself, believing that people would be interested in what I was creating. I started this business for the pleasure that creating gives me, I really enjoy creating delicious and beautiful pieces for such special occasions as a wedding or first birthday, the acceptance and affection they have received has been so gratifying.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I firmly believe that when you feel passion for what you do, it shows, people can notice it. Creating is my passion, being able to find a way to channel that and turn it into my profession has been incredible. It has not been easy to find the balance between my personal life and my work, there have been many sacrifices, many sleepless nights, many moments of frustration, but it has been worth it. There are many challenges that you come across when you are self-taugh, but those challenges motivate me (also stress me) to go for more, to improve, to innovate. Panela is part of who I am, it is a part of my life where I let my creativity flow. Creating and being happy knowing that what I do is part of the most special moments in many people’s lives. I’m with them celebrating their weddings, their graduations, their baby showers, isn’t that amazing?
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I do this very often, I’m the one in charge of tourism in my family. Houston is a city that has welcomed me with a lot of love and very good food. I love taking my guests to city parks, Buffalo Bayou park is one of my favorites, the bat colony is not something you see everywhere. We always visit museums, NASA, I love taking them out for a good barbecue, my favorite pecan pie, some Tex-Mex.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I know it sounds very cliche, but I wouldn’t be here without the support of my family, they have always been by my side applauding my successes, helping me rise from my failures and pushing me to go for more. Panela exists thanks to the unconditional support I have received from my boyfriend JP, I would never have made it without him, thanks for supporting me in every way, thanks for making sure I had all the time I needed to study, test and practice. Thank you for your wise words at all times, thank you for pushing me to give 100%, for helping me solve problems that appeared along the way and for always thinking of options to make complex processes easier. And of course to all those who have dedicated a little of their time to share what I do. I love you all
