We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Kodak Kaskin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua Kodak, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted freedom. I realized the only way to get it was to make my own rules and daily schedule. Not to work for the next person.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I LOVE TO PAINT, BIG! Most of my work is created on 48x60in’ canvases and up. I do practice on smaller pallets however, I believe the size of my work sets me apart from my peers. To get to where I am today in my career it took practice, and studies. I did not study fine arts at Texas Southern University, however I have always had a passion and live for drawing, painting and art in general as a youth. I began painting at Hoffman Middle School. I actually fail my art class when I first began, it was my drive and dedication for a better outcome that led me back into that classroom and prove to myself that I was worthy! Even though it has not been an easy journey it has certainly been worthwhile.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends were to visit me in the City of Houston, our fist stop would be “The Breakfast Club” for brunch. Visit a fine arts museum. We’ll visit a poetry night Hosted by “Mc Kodak” Skydiving is not far out from the city limits and definitely go and get margaritas!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
