We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Baptiste and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I knew that starting my own business would take dedication, consistency and good planning. Success doesn’t come easy so you must work hard for what you want, even when you feel like giving up.Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Here’s a little backstory of how my brand was created. I was 23 with a 12 month old daughter, unemployed , college student and stuck at home during a pandemic. I wanted to find a way to be able to make money at home doing something that I actually liked. So I started with baking, I wanted to sell decorated cookies for parties/events. Well, unfortunately I couldn’t master the baking part, so I said “I’m going to open a business selling beauty products”. So I researched vendors, created a plan and got started. I launched my business on August 7th 2020, Luxe Beauty By Leah B, which offers beauty & skin products for women of all ages. When I first launched I was blessed to have received 19 orders on our first day of opening, thanks to all my family and friends. Ever since then it has not been easy, there are days when I ask myself “what am I doing wrong” or “why are all these people visiting my site but aren’t buying anything”. I had to realize that success doesn’t happen overnight, this is all a process. I am still learning everyday and I honestly love my business. Receiving 5 star ratings and complements from customers lets me know I’m doing the right thing. So far we’ve shipped 130+ orders that I am thankful for. My life as an entrepreneur is just beginning!Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Lost & Found, Pappasitos, Discovery Green, Topgolf, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Galleria, Lotus Seafood, BB’s Cafe, Kemah BoardwalkThe Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank the author Renee A. Moses for recognizing me as one of their shoutouts
