We had the good fortune of connecting with JP Lane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JP, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be that if they give it to God, they can overcome anything. I want people to see how I couldn’t rely on my own strength to survive this world, God got me through. I want people to remember how I turned tragedy into triumph, so can they. I did my best to help people build a mindset that their circumstance isn’t going to stop them from achieving their dreams. I don’t have my legs BUT I’m still Standing – JP Lane

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a double amputee Army Veteran wanting people to see my passion and love for music and not for my “disability” has made the journey challenging but has not stopped me from working on becoming a recording artist. I am excited to release my first official EP by the end of 2020. I currently record my music in Houston, TX with the Grammy Award winning producer, Billy Dorsey. I’m grateful to have a producer who supports our Veterans and sees me for me not my disability. I am most proud of overcome many obstacles in my life. After I was blown up by a 200lb IED (bomb) in Afghanistan, I sustained 26 injuries and had 28 surgeries, but God kept me alive for a reason. Doctors told me I would never walk, talk properly, or sing and everyday I am proving them wrong. I walk on two prosthetics, I’m a Inspirational Speaker, and I’m becoming a recording artist.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a kid at heart! If I see go-karts that go 45 mph, count me in! Andretti Indoor Karting. I love that rush feeling and a “friendly” competition. They have great food too! The Andretti family support our Veterans and always give back. If you haven’t been there, you have to go check it out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to Shoutout my dad, Art Lane, for helping me become the man I am today. He started from a trailer home with holes in the ground and now owns his own company. He has shown me to NEVER give up even through the difficult times. Also, How to appreciate the little things in life, how hard work and dedication always brings success.
