We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Mendez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
When it comes to my legacy, I aspire to inspire people, make my photos special, and most importantly, help people around the world. I want to be remembered as someone who made a positive impact on others’ lives and left a lasting impression.

Through my work, I aim to inspire individuals to pursue their passions and live a life filled with creativity and purpose. I want my photographs to evoke emotions, tell meaningful stories, and capture the beauty of the world we live in. By doing so, I hope to ignite a sense of wonder and encourage others to see the world from different perspectives.

Beyond my artistic endeavors, I am dedicated to helping people in need around the world. Whether it’s through volunteering, supporting charitable causes, or leveraging my skills and resources, I want to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. My ultimate goal is to contribute to creating a more equitable and compassionate world, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering persistence, consistent dedication, and deep faith in God. These elements have been instrumental in shaping my professional path and guiding me through the challenges I encountered.

Getting to where I am today professionally has been a result of hard work, determination, and a continuous pursuit of growth. It certainly wasn’t an easy journey. I faced numerous obstacles, setbacks, and moments of doubt along the way. However, my faith in God provided me with the strength and resilience to persevere.

When faced with challenges, I turned to God and sought guidance, believing that there was a purpose behind every difficulty. This helped me maintain a positive mindset and motivated me to keep pushing forward, even when things seemed impossible. I embraced the mantra that every setback is an opportunity for a comeback.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For outdoors I will recommend the Hermann Park, inside the park you can find the Zoo and in the same area is the museum district , where you can go to the Science Museum , is one of my favorites! All museums are free each Thursday! Another great park is the Buffalo Bayou near downtown , you can go for a bike ride, play volleyball, or just enjoy the view of the buildings on the sunset !
Kemah Boardwalk is amazing in the sunset, there are restaurants, bars, hotel, events and more ! It is approximately 35 minutos from Houston!
For bars I recommend “Tres” great cocktails!
There is a huge variety of restaurants in Houston of many countries !
I would also attend to an Astros game or visit any other stadium.
You can not miss the adventure of going to the Space Center Houston (NASA).
There are many activities around here you choose!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my father Francisco Mendez whos pass away 3 years ago and to my mother, who have played an invaluable role in shaping the person I am today. They have been my pillars of support, providing unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement throughout my life.

My father has been a constant source of inspiration. He instilled in me the values of hard work, determination, and perseverance. He taught me the importance of setting goals and pushing myself to achieve them. His unwavering belief in me, even during challenging times, has fueled my motivation to strive for excellence.

My mother has been my rock, always there to lend a listening ear and offer words of wisdom.

This shoutout is a tribute to my father’s enduring presence in my life. I am grateful for the love, wisdom, and guidance he bestowed upon me. I carry his legacy with me every day, and I strive to honor his memory by living a life filled with purpose, integrity, and compassion.

Thank you, Dad, for being my guiding light and for shaping me into the person I am today. Your love and support will forever be cherished and celebrated.
