Meet Julia Cloud | Master Craftsman

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Cloud and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My husband and I have always liked working with our hands and we are nerds. His family would make wooden wands for gifts inspired from the Harry Potter book series. We started out our business making magical wands out of different types of wood. As we grew, more and more types of exotic wood were added. We turned this into a side hussĺe that helped us save for a down payment for a house. Eventually we wanted to go full time with our business and we did in 2020. We shifted from wands to sword displays as the magic of the Harry Potter series has slowed down. We have a few swords that we wanted to display and thought, “we can make that.” We did and we decided to see if other people would like our design. It was a success and is a major part of our business today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our products stand out because they are simple and provide the sword to be the work of art shown off. Each display we offer fits different swords providing a secure way to show off the sword. I have learned so much about swords along the way. There is so much rich history and so much fantasy that it is fun to see where each adventure takes us. It hasn’t always been easy, especially when I see a cool sword that I don’t have and I have to resist temptation to not buy it. Seriously though, my husband and I have had to learn to communicate with each other in ways that we never had before. We have learned that it’s okay to try something new to see if it works. Some things were hugely successful and others were complete flops. We have loved each step along the way, even the failures and slow times. It’s been so worth it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend were visiting the area, I would take them hiking for sure. Some of the best views of the area are up in the mountains. We would also eat at a couple of the local diners. Those always have the best vibes and food. There are a couple little shops in town that I would stop at, especially Soul Mama’s Rock Shop. It’s an adorable little shop ran by an amazing couple. The shop is always so welcoming and has the coolest items.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I know I wouldn’t be anywhere without my amazing husband who is my rock and my partner in everything. Working side by side with him and in this business has been so much fun. I would also like to thank my family and all the support they have shown.
