We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitee Villarreal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to work for myself but had no idea what I would be doing. After years of suffering with cystic acne I caved and bought an airbrush makeup machine. After a year of practicing, I serviced my first bride and fell in love with it. Making a living helping other people look and feel good just made sense.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love making people feel comfortable in their own skin. This all goes back to when I first started makeup. I was insecure with my skin so I used makeup to cover it up. After years of doing so I started offering makeup to friends and family and my business evolved from there. It’s definitely NOT an easy journey but It’s worth it. I evolved from just a makeup artist using drugstore products to a licensed cosmetologist offering luxury beauty services. Ranging from full body spa services to on location hair and makeup. Our team of artists like to create an environment where our clients feel heard, understood and most importantly trusted. Our clients tell us all too often of past beauty experiences that left a bad taste in their mouth. We do what we can to change that. Being able to work with people you want and saying no to the things you don’t, makes all the hard work worth it. I’ve learned that not everyone is in business for the right reasons and that you can’t trust everyone. It’s a sad day when you learn those lesson but they are important. Some people are in business strictly for the money and it shows. If I could tell you anything about KV Beauty as a brand and a business is that we strive for excellence and create a luxurious but also life changing experience. Have you ever been in a room with captivating and knowledgeable people and you couldn’t stop listening to them talk? You leave the room feeling inspired and better about yourself. That’s what we want to do for our clients. It’s more than a makeup application or a facial.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m such a foodie so I would go to ALL the food places. Depending on which friend comes to town I would cater our events to what they like. Definitely start off with brunch at “The Kitchen” off research forest in the woodlands. Maybe do a little shopping or hop to “Urban Air Trampoline park” The next day we would check out the Houston Zoo, who doesn’t love cute animals? For lunch a sushi spot or downtown aquarium. Next day would have to be the beach for sure! Galveston Boardwalk or Jamaica Beach. We like to hang and chat, so most likely a lot of cooking at the house, playing games and catching up for the duration of their stay.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband! He’s my #1 supporter and always has been. From guiding my when things get tough and buying me equipment that I wasn’t ready to make an investment in yet. I also want to thank BENG. The “Bridal Event Networking Group” It’s a networking group for wedding industry professionals. We enjoy lavish lunches at some of the most beautiful venues in the area. I’ve met a ton of fabulous vendors who are now friends that all help to grow each others businesses.
