We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlyn Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaitlyn, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was always a writer and blogger and like most copywriters, I sort of stumbled into the world of copywriting. It was a total lightbulb moment for me – something that allowed me to combine my love of words with branding & marketing, and connecting with others. When I rebranded to Copy Uncorked, the name + concept came to me after a 2 week trip to France. Travel and wine are two of my absolute favorite things so it seemed like a natural fit to use my love of wine as a metaphor for the copywriting process. For a long time, I think people have viewed copywriting as “salesly” or truthfully, are just confused about what it even is. So I wanted to make it feel more approachable yet also refined. I wanted the experience of working with a copywriter to feel like enjoying a glass of wine at golden hour in good company. That was really the founding vision. All the ideas for the brand and the messaging sort of spilled out from there. I knew I wanted to offer high-end, hospitality-inspired 1×1 services that really valued the client experience as well as a suite of digital products + courses that newer business owners could easily “uncork” and implement for themselves. We’re in the midst of creating our second course and plan to create additional digital products in our Shop later this year.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Copy Uncorked is a copywriting and brand strategy studio pouring up high-converting copy that captures (and keeps) your prospect’s attention, so you can generate more revenue and grow your business. We specialize in crafting comprehensive brand messaging guides, writing website copy and launch copy—such as long-form sales pages and email sequences. At the core of it all, our mission is to guide the modern founder from a place of confusion and comparison to a deeply rooted confidence in their overall message. We bring a laid-back yet refined approach to copywriting and like to have fun while remaining serious about results. The entire brand is wine-themed; serving as a metaphor to the copywriting process. It also reminds me to enjoy the little moments of life without getting too caught up in the race of achievement. Think: a glass of Cab at golden hour in good company. Because building a business isn’t easy by any means and truthfully, it takes time, hard work, and a lot of resilience. But I wouldn’t have it any other way and have met so many amazing people through this business. I’m proud of the work we’ve been able to partner with our clients on, the courses we’ve been creating, and how we’ve been able to share a new perspective on copywriting. I’m also really passionate about design and the relationship it has to copywriting. Like cheese and wine, they’re a perfect pairing!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question! I’d bring them back to our house, where there’d be mimosas or Aperol Spritzes waiting, along with a few apps. We’d catch up and get ready for dinner at one of Virginia Beach’s coolest spots like The Cavalier or head up to Orion’s Roof. If it was summer, we’d meet up with my family for fun day on the water. That night we’d pull the boat up to a dockside restaurant to grab a bite. Post-dinner, we’d catch the sunset in the bay and cruise back home for a night of good conversation around the firepit. If we had another day, it would probably be a chill beach day and sandwiches from Taste Unlimited before they headed out with iced coffees in hand!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely Joanna Wiebe of CopyHackers who served as a mentor to me, likely without even really knowing it. I went through a few of her courses before launching my business full-time and they totally helped set me up for success. My brand designer, Kadie Smith of Drop Cap Design, has also been instrumental in building my brand. She has such a gift for developing brands that feel timeless and refined. I was wary of a wine-themed brand at first – I was afraid it would come across as cheesy but I could see it all working in my mind. So when I found Kadie and saw her design style, I knew she was the perfect person to partner with and we’ve worked together on various client projects ever since.
