We had the good fortune of connecting with Kamesia Rainey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kamesia, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
Yes, I am a parent to a beautiful 9 year old princess. Everything I do, I do with her in mind. Knowing that my decisions affect her the most, I have to make sure I’m moving correctly and making the best choices. As her mother, she looks up to me so giving it my all is always the goal. As a parent, sowing the gift in her so she’ll always have a talent is important to me. Coming from a generation where hair/ braiding was a passion for all of us. I knew I wanted to instill that into my daughter in hopes of it impacting her life choices. Just as I did, hopefully she’ll find her creativity in protective styling for the busy, hustle, and bustle of life. I’m a hairstylist that caters to the woman on the go. The woman who puts her beauty in my hands, giving her 1 less thing to worry about. My motto is “Hustling without hassling with your hair”. Who has time to get glammed when your busy life requires so much of you? I give my clients a way to have it all, the beauty and the boss! I enhance the beauty that is already there but she may not have the time to bring it to its full potential. Even if my daughter doesn’t pursue hairstyling like me, she will still have that knowledge of creativity and drive to dominate whatever field she chooses. Watching me, she knows that whatever she does, make sure she does it with passion and always give it her all!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since a child, I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty field. I was the girl who not only wanted to do her dolls hair, I also wanted to do my hair, my family’s hair and my friends hair. If you had hair, I wanted to play in it lol. I learned how to braid hair in elementary school. Once I mastered my craft, I was the go-to girl for braids. Over the years, as I got older, learning new skills, succeeding cosmetology school, keeping up with the trends, challenging my creative side, seeing the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, meeting so many wonderful women, I knew this career was meant for me! Of course it’s not easy, success doesn’t happen overnight, sometimes I get overwhelmed but I never quit! I pray for the strength to handle it all and I keep pushing. What’s sets me apart is my passion for all things beauty. Giving women a different level of confidence is everything to me. Seeing their faces smile and their mood glow makes me love what I do even more. I wouldn’t change anything good or bad about my path, it’s Amazing!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not really a going out person, I’m definitely a home body. Normally when I do look for entertainment it’s the most chill and relaxed spots. For breakfast we would probably go to Max’s Wine and Dive, The Tasting Room, The breakfast Klub, Another Broken Egg Or Black Walnut Cafe. Good food and mimosas is always a good time. Next, I would look for us a karaoke bar, with good music and hookah, something like Prospect Park Or Erma Rose. We would of course go shopping and get mani/pedis In between time in City Centre. Maybe even do a Painting with a twist day. I also love Union Kitchen, Ciros, Steak 48, Thirteen, Pluckers, So we would probably do those for dinner. I’m not really big on crowds so most of this will be done during the week. Houston night life on Weekends is something serious lol!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my daughter. We’re in this together, Always!
