We had the good fortune of connecting with Karla Manning and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karla, how does your business help the community or world?
My business helps the community/larger society in that I’m working with educators and school leaders in their efforts to create equitable change within their classrooms and school districts. My work focuses on building the capacities and skillsets of educators and principals in their work with racially and culturally diverse students. The services I provide with my company, The Equity Leadership Group, helps educators to create teaching practices that are culturally responsive to the needs of students, while also strategizing with school leaders in designing equitable policies.

What should our readers know about your business?

Can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Yes! A book that I’m currently reading is The Psychology of Selling by Brian Tracy.  This book is impactful because it’s helping me to realize the inner changes that need to happen for me to be a successful salesperson, particularly since I have a service-based business.  This book is teaching me the beliefs and philosophies that I need to mentally embrace so that I can successfully develop my sales skills.  I’m also realizing how important it is to constantly improve my sales skills – which involves constant reflection, growth, and strong self-confidence and self-belief. The more successful I am as a salesperson, the more I am able to meet and exceed my revenue goals.  My mindset about sales is totally shifting while reading this book. Thank you Brian Tracy!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are two people who I definitely have to give a shout-out to in my journey of being an entrepreneur. First, I would like to acknowledge Koereyelle DuBose in planting the entrepreneurial seeds in my mind. Her energy, her passion, and her willingness to teach about business development was powerful for me. I also have to give a serious shout-out to my business coach, Rosetta Thurman with her Happy Black Woman brand. Rosetta’s knowledge, expertise, and tough-love is helping me in SO many areas of my marketing strategy, content development, while also giving me the overall confidence that’s needed to be a successful entrepreneur.
