We had the good fortune of connecting with Kati Overmier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kati, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

Collaboration and the co-creative process. We wouldn’t have been able to bring this work to life without doing it together, because we bring different perspectives and talents to our work together – and we offer different roles within the business. I am a therapist and social worker, so helping others with their well-being is something I do on a regular basis. I have years of training and expertise in mental health. Alycia is a copywriter and yoga instructor, and she’s incredibly skilled at conveying our ideas elegantly. We compliment each other really well. I think we’ve also been so successful, because we’re friends first, business partners second. One of our listeners told me that our podcast sounds like two friends sitting and having a conversation together… and this is exactly the vibe we’re going for!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
UNRAVEL Your Days is a virtual studio and community for womxn reframing mind-body-soul wellness for everyday life. We help womxn Envision soul desires, Enlighten personal and collective experience, and Embody wellness inside daily life.

The UNRAVEL framework is designed to parallel the seasons and cycles of life to allow for embodied wellness that’s both practically accessible and magical! We host thoughtful, critical conversations on our weekly podcast and within our Mighty Networks community, and starting soon, we’ll teach whole-body wellness practices for daily use inside our virtual studio. I’m really excited about getting to connect with more womxn and helping others UNRAVEL to live a more meaningful life.

We got here today by clarifying our values. One of our business values is “whole-self wellness” which means that we prioritize our individual and collective wellbeing first. Similar to slow-living, we embrace slow-business: We’re willing to push deadlines to prioritize caretaking for sick kids and creative slumps; we’re willing to redefine business plans if it means working from a place of better alignment.

This has also been one of the biggest challenges to our business because holding this value is challenging in a productivity-first culture; but actually, embracing the “constraints” of daily life (including work and motherhood) is what allows us to create this business more fluidly.

One of the lessons we’ve learned along the way was it’s both challenging and deeply valuable to “jump before you’re ready.” Sometimes getting started means showing up imperfectly, and we’re discovering that this is actually really powerful. I’m a perfectionist, so getting started before it looks exactly like what we’re envisioning has been challenging but worth it – to share this with other people.

We want the world to know we’re committed to this work, which means we do this work (individually and together), and we’re grateful to teach and learn within our community of womxn devoted to mind-body-soul practice within daily life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many places in Houston it’s really hard to pick! I’m a park person in general. I’d say people need to check out Hermann Park (although go early because parking goes fast!) or the Houston Museum of Natural Science. I also really like the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. They have great things for kids to check out and since I’m a mom of a little one, that’s important to me. For food, I’d have to go to Luigi’s connected to Axelrad’s. I love the pizza! I spent 7 years in New York and this is so far the closest to NY pizza here that I’ve found. We also love that it’s outdoors and we can bring kids until a certain time of night. I’d also suggest the Truck Yard. It’s great for adults and kids until a certain time of night. They have drinks for the adults and it’s outdoors for the kids, plus really fun tables. They have different food truck options so you never know what you’re going to get.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could not do the work I do without my business partner, Alycia Buenger
