We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Meche and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Being from South Louisiana, it’s no secret that events are a main part of the culture and way of life here. Every weekend you can attend a local festival, concert or holiday celebration – most families are so big here, even just a Christmas gathering turns into an event. Our way of life really helped me see events as a whole experience, a day the attendees will always remember and tell stories about – this is true for weddings as well! Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Truth be told, this business became successful so much faster than I anticipated it would. By no means was it easy, getting a business off the ground is so much hard work. My first year in business was filled with so many late nights, constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone and learning…. so.much.learning. I often think about what the “it” factor was that made this business successful and ultimately I always land on the same thing, the heart. I got into this profession because it’s something I’m SO passionate about. I love weddings, love and serving my clients to the absolute best of my abilities. I love taking a wedding and turning it into a full experience for the guests. I love getting to know my clients on a deeper level and tying in personal touches that really tell the story of who they are. I think that comes through in my work and people can truly see the love behind it. While it wasn’t, and still isn’t easy, I can’t imagine doing anything else and truly feel like this is where I’m meant to be. I’m so excited to continue the growth and serve more couples, who knows where this journey will take us!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re going to visit South Louisiana, you have to come during Mardi Gras! This time of year is filled with all of my favorite things… king cake, music, events and it doesn’t hurt that it’s also crawfish season! So moral of the story, the itinerary will be planned around food and festivities! We’ll get all the staple items – boudin, gumbo, boiled crawfish, snowballs and all the fried seafood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many little things and people played a part in my success, but there’s two that stand out the most – my parents and a high school teacher. My parents always supported me and full-heartedly believed I could achieve anything I put my mind to. Their belief in me from the beginning is the reason I was brave enough to believe in myself. They taught me the value of hard work, “always doing your best” and the love of a good side hustle. During my senior year of high school my business computer lab teacher, Mrs. Mannette Smith, told me she always pictured me in business and not nursing (which I was planning to major in lol). I told her my biggest dream was to be a Wedding Planner, but I didn’t think our small town was a market that it would be successful in- she replied with “you’d be surprised” and put me competing in Hospitality Management in FBLA that year. I accidentally made it all the way to nationals and changed my major to Hospitality Management at Freshman orientation.
