We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Staggers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My initial thought was “I never want my livelihood to be in someone else’s hands again”. For years I took care of my grandfather and over those years I had been laid off or let go from jobs I had been on and been loyal to. The responsibility of taking care of someone just puts you in a different mindset. I never wanted to be put in a situation where I could not financially provide for him or myself. So, after a layoff, and receiving a severance I decided to use that money to start K&R BODYSOLUTIONS in 2018. Watching my peers, my mom and other women over the years I often saw the sacrifice it was to just be a mom, wife, caretaker, etc. I had experienced women putting self-care to the back burner to take care of “more important” responsibilities. I wanted a place that women could come, feel relaxed, get their pre-baby bodies back, feel confident again, and not have to worry about services being so expensive that they couldn’t afford them. It’s crazy cause over the years God has shown me that my business is bigger than body contouring. My clients are my extended family. K&R Bodysolutions is a bodycontouring spa that offers innovative nonsurgical options for weight-loss. Whether it’s our nonsurgical lipo, or our detox treatments we have multiple pain free options to help you reach your body goals . We pride ourselves in providing treatments that work and won’t break the bank!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I provide a top tier service that is not only effective but affordable. The relationships that I build with my clients far exceed them just being a customer. As mentioned earlier, my clients are my family. We share experiences, memories and growth all while achieving weight loss goals. It’s a journey that we are on together that is bigger than just the body. Oh, did I tell you my clients have 24-hour access to me. They can text, call, or reach out anytime for anything. To be really transparent, my clients are what have kept me going. Entrepreneurship is not easy at all. There are days you want to give up. I literally have the most encouraging clients. I tell them all the time that God knew I needed them, and that it’s not an accident that they chose Body solutions. Along this journey, I’ve learned that to get to the next level you have to have the right people around. You have to be in the boat with people that want to celebrate your wins just as much as you. What I want people to know about my brand is that I have a genuine passion for helping others. I will always provide luxury services at economical prices. Most importantly, I vow to do ALL things with honesty and integrity.
Who knew a girl from 5th ward, who grew up in a single parent household, could defy the odds? I hope that someone looks at me and says, “If she can, I can too”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Now why would you ask a question like this? It is Houston, so it would take days for me to really introduce them to the city. So, for some of the best soul-food we would for sure go to The Greasy Spoon. That would be a good lunch spot and she will for sure have leftovers. It wouldn’t be right for me to take her there without taking her to J&J Lounge. They have the best homemade hamburgers, and the fried fish is to die for. For the drinks and vibes, I would suggest either Plush Bar & Grill or Jax Bar & Grill. And you cannot visit Houston without checking out our museum district, city center and of course the Galleria Mall.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am NOTHING without God. I cannot take the credit for anything that occurs in my life. It is all because of God’s love and faithfulness towards me. After God I would have to say my grandfather, Charles Boston. I took care of him up until last year when he passed. I’ve never met a more selfless person in my life. On his worst days he would offer a helping hand or words of encouragement. He was my best friend. He made an impact on so many lives over his 94 years of living and hope that I am able to live up to the values that he and my mother taught me over the years. Most people gage success based on money and material items. I want my sucess to be shown through the blessing and seeds I’ve sown into others along my journey. I am always reminded that nothing I have is my own, and that God blesses us to be a blessing.
