We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Renee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kay Renee, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to provide the experience I would have loved to receive when starting my journey with waistbeads. I had an awful experience, customer service and product wise. I wanted to be inclusive, leave no one behind and ensure I provided great customer service.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Honestly I designed my brand to create an experience for all people; no matter their race, gender identification, physical size or socioeconomic status. I have something for everyone! My biggest flex is providing an experience that makes the each client feel confident, empowered and sexy. I stand on my mission statement of “No Waist Left Behind”. It was not easy at all, I had a lot of trial and error, beads dumped in the floor, broken string, I’ve had beads lose color and integrity not to mention the long nights balancing a family, a full time job and my brand. I had to research and try so many beads to ensure I was putting out the best quality while ensuring durability and style. What sets me apart the most is body positivity. I encourage people of all sizes to be comfortable in the skin they are in and love themselves through the process! This includes every roll, stretch mark, and fupa!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ironically my best friend just did visit and we had a ball! We would eat at Texas de Brazil one of my favs. Go to the mall and shop for my boys, grab a margarita at Red Lobster, & dance the night away at Studio eighty. My life is surrounded by my family so alot of my places include them such as Lego land, the Fort Worth Zoo and Six Flags!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my Gems!! They have supported me from day one, they challenge me on creativity and continue to support my business on a daily! They share, like, comment and support everything I do and I literally would not be here without them!
