Meet Kayla N. Tuan N. | Co-Founders

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla N. Tuan N. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla N., we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
NewYen was founded by two best friends, Kayla NEWsome and Tuan NguYEN, whose names inspired our brand identity. United by a shared passion for social media and creative expression, our bond grew through countless conversations, collaborative projects, and a commitment to building the foundation for our future careers.
After COVID, we recognized how seamlessly we worked together and decided to channel our skills into supporting small businesses in Houston. What began with event photography evolved into food photography, and today, we proudly represent a variety of small businesses across the city.
Our mission is rooted in our shared enthusiasm for the creative industry and its influence on current and future generations. In the future, we hope to teach, manage, and represent aspiring creatives.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Kayla and I met in college, and from the start, our creativity naturally clicked. We built something special together. NewYen was founded on a shared vision, where our ideas flowed effortlessly, and our strengths perfectly complemented each other. Kayla and Tuan both have degrees in Media Production, but our real learning came from hands-on experience. We’ve worked with ESPN, Bayou Buzz, and Neal Hamil Agency, picking up skills that shaped how we create. Starting NewYen together just made sense—we push each other to be better and bring out the best in our ideas. We also love connecting with other creatives, swapping tips, and learning new tricks. That’s a big part of why we work so well together—we’re always growing, teaching each other, and finding new ways to create.
Kayla’s Lesson: There’s never a perfect time to start, but having a clear plan, a strong brand identity, and defined goals will set you up for success.
Tuan’s Lesson: In my opinion, starting a business with a partner is way better than doing it by yourself!
What we want the world to know about NewYen is that our main goal is to make high quality content accessible again. its not hard to give your best with limited resources. We really pride ourselves in getting to know our clients that we work with to create a harmony between their voice and our vision- our Slogan by the way! Additionally, we also want to showcase how being a creative can be a sustainable job. Just because we don’t work in a cubicle doesn’t mean we aren’t serious about what we do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you spent the day with NewYen, we’d start with breakfast at Black Walnut, fueling up before diving into creative work. By afternoon, we’d unwind at Blue Sake Sushi for happy hour, we definitely reccomend their Crunchy Red roll! We then enjoy smoked brisket and cocktails at Loro Smokehouse for dinner. If you visit, you should try their frozen mango sake cocktail! To end the night, we’d grab dessert at Common Bond. Kayla’s favorite is the morning bun, and Tuan’s favorite is the kouign amann! On the weekend, you can catch us taking pictures at the Montrose Collective, thrift shopping at our favorite goodwill, and dancing the night away in Midtown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We first met at Candytopia, an interactive candy art museum. It’s worth giving a special shoutout to Candytopia for inspiring us with its unique environment. The idea that you could be paid to express happiness, creativity, and authenticity was a true “whoa” moment for us. Candytopia brought together a vibrant community of creatives, actors, influencers, and models, fostering a space where imagination thrived.
