We had the good fortune of connecting with Keiara Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keiara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to create a brand with a trustworthy reputation with the intent to sell high quality products and provide superb customer service. It was important for me to help eliminate the several bad shopping experiences I’ve had with certain hair companies within the United States and overseas from continuing to happen. I’ve had terrible hair sent to me with no sort of resolve. I’ve also had horrible customer service to accompany the poor quality product that was sent to me. I could no longer sit back and continue to watch this happen. I decided to create a brand that celebrates women, motivates and inspires women to strive for more, and ultimately provide products of supreme quality along with superb customer service. Then boom…. Kandy Royal Hair was born!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For starters, I have a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education which led me into starting a career as an educator. Since then, I’ve moved in an Administrator role governing a team of 25 dedicated people of educators and social workers. The lessons I’ve learned through this field is that we all have the ability to impact lives young and old. Many people look to us for support and guidance. It is a huge task and also a blessing. My motto is “Each one, Teach one”. Through the many challenges of business and my career, I keep in mind that everything always works out for me. I will persevere, I will push through, and ultimately, “I WILL WIN”. The goal is working on personal development for the betterment of community and helping others along their path also.
I want the world to know that my brand is not just about helping women to look good with high quality products, but my brand is a safe space to come and get filled by daily encouraging messages. Sometimes we all need a safe environment to go to, to be fed with good news, inspiration, and encouragement. My brand is fun, bold, creative, and encouraging. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Listen, I am a city girl so downtown Chicago is always fun! Shopping on the Magnificent Mile is a must. Hitting up some boutiques up North is an option too. We have several malls to choose from and can even go to Schaumburg for shopping. As a Chicagoan you already know, we don’t play about our food! LOL. There are restaurants downtown to mom-and-pop restaurants throughout the city. We have soul food, pizza, and seafood. I’m also a big kid so I’m down for some go kart racing, laser tag, and even Top Golf. Let’s turn all the way up!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have inspiration from a plethora of women and individuals starting with my mom and sister to friends and celebrities. My pastor John F. Hannah of New Life Covenant South East Chicago and my coach Stormy Wellington have both been influential in my plans to go after all that God has in store for me. I am big on creating a better future for the generations coming up after me. It is essential that I take advantage of opportunities to create generational wealth so that my bloodline can learn from my mistakes and have a leg up for success. A good man or woman leaves an inheritance to his/her children’s children.
