We had the good fortune of connecting with Kentrel Code and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kentrel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of Set Sail Apparel are the relationships we’ve built in our community. We’ve worked with a handful of up-and-coming photographers, artists, models, graphic designers, production companies, etc who have all shared our vision and see the potential of the brand. We have also seek to make the connection beneficial for everyone we’ve worked with. Another huge part of our success is our team. We are a team of creatives who are following our passions and building our talent through the brand. So having a great supporting cast that also helps with the success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Set Sail Apparel is a lifestyle brand that’s redefining casual yacht wear. We don’t believe that a button down shirt with cargo pants and Sperry’s is the only “boat look”. Also, everything we put out comes from personal experience since I was in the Navy and really enjoyed life near the water. We’re excited about the new product collections. We have a nice Fall 2020 collection drop coming soon along with an entire cut-and-sew collection for 2021. The key way I overcome challenges is changing my perspective. A shift in my thoughts normally results in a better, more creative solution. Having a brand forces you to think outside-of-the-box and to keep being creative, by using your mind as tool first. This has been a challenge and my biggest lesson so far in owning a clothing brand. I want the world to know that with a lot of hard work and being dedicated to your craft, you can accomplish anything. We all are a brand and have something to offer to this world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend was coming to town, I would first invite to Alley Kat. It’s a bar with three sections of music and each room vibes differently. I would also plan to take them on the Surf N Drip jet skis in Baybrook to enjoy the day near the water. Some of my favorite local restaurants are Sunshine’s health food store and vegetarian deli, LoveBirds, & Mike’s Seafood.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Unlabel by Marc Ecko was the book that inspired me to go beyond my vision and understand the journey of having a brand. Because of that book, I know that everyone’s “success story” is unique and different for each of us. What works for one person is not always the secret formula. Understanding Marc’s story and his journey lets me know that my path is my own path to follow. What’s for me, is for me. So I appreciate that he took time to write about his story.
