We had the good fortune of connecting with Kera Kidd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kera, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My business serves the autism population and we deliver applied behavior analysis therapy and our focus is to help those on the spectrum increase there communication, social skills, and decrease behavioral issues. Our main goal is to help those on the spectrum become as independent as possible within their environment. I’ve watched children overcome their barriers and do things like go into mainstream kindergarten, be able to obtain jobs, order their own meals, and overall be proud of themselves and what they’ve accomplished. I think also a part of what we do is make those in the community more aware of those who are different and more aware of those with social difficulties and how to adapt and/or help them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kidd’s Kids ABA Therapy provides in home applied behavior analysis therapy which is a type of therapy that can improve social, communication, and learning skills through positive reinforcement. I think what sets us apart in our industry is we aren’t focused on getting as many clients as we can to make money but instead we are focused on the quality of services and ensuring that we are providing services that truly benefit out clients. It’s definitely been hard work but I’ve gained success through honesty when clients come to. me with the goals of what they want their child to gain through our services I’m honest about what we can and can’t do while setting clear boundaries. I think there is no business that is easy to start and maintain and the only way to make it through is to have a drive and perseverance. You also have to believe in yourself and even when in doubt you have to fake it until you make it. I want people to know that we are hear to change the outlook on applied behavior analysis as there is a bad rap a lot of times about the services and we want to show people that it can be a positive and beneficial experience for all parties.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a hard one I’m such a homebody! I love the beach so honestly given that weather was permitting in the crazy Houston weather I’d start off with a trip to Galveston and rent a beach house and have a meal and some drinks at seafood blvd. Everyone loves the Galleria who’s visiting so maybe upon returning have a meal at Moxie’s do some people watching. There is a new market I found called Railway Heights Market I’ve been wanting to go so that would be a perfect opportunity to go check that out.
