We had the good fortune of connecting with Kheri Roy-Favela and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kheri, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting your own business is risky but, I decided to bet on myself… I took a huge risk leaving an 11 year career with a local growing Texas company loved by Texans and said “I can do this, I can change my life and my family’s future.” I wanted to give back time to myself, and time to my family… I realized I had never spent an entire Thanksgiving day or Christmas Eve home with my 2 sons and that wasn’t fair to them. I wanted to prioritize my needs as a human, over the business needs of my career, which I hadn’t done, ever.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are a local benefits brokerage. We support local Houston based businesses by educating them on Employee benefits, creating affordable benefit packages, educating the employees and handling the enrollment for them. In addition to that, We are the person the employee calls when they have a question or a claim. So we support the business owner by taking that off of their list of to do’s as well as creating employee attraction and retention. I LOVE sitting 1-on-1 with the employees during their enrollment, you learn about their family and what is important to them- My goal working with them is to help them protect their family and financial future.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am Houston born and raised so I would go so MANY places!! We have the most amazing museums so I would definitely visit the Museum District, and then we always stop at Little Matt’s in West U after visiting the Museum District because it is the BEST family friendly spot in the entire city with amazing food and drinks for Parents. You’ve got to go check out the street art in Houston, so even just a great drive around town. I would go for Michelada’s and tacos at La Lupita on Pinemont. Get korean fried chicken wings from Seoul Side Food truck. Oh man… So many great food places. I would take my bestie to visit Discovery green to read a book on the grass. See a movie at the Moon-struck Drive-in. Go for a workout with the Lynn Twins at Mark’s Boxing gym and then recharge with a Nitro coldbrew at Cambrian Coffee in Spring Branch. I just love our city, there’s so many things to do, so much diversity!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To all Boss babes and working Mom’s everywhere, Whether we are stay at home Mom’s or Career Mom’s.. We are all just striving to give our family’s the best that we possibly can, and I support that!
