We had the good fortune of connecting with Kid Kash and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kid Kash, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a kid I used to love drawing, painting, anything that involved creating something from nothing. I was the kid who would draw on the side of his notes instead of paying attention to what the teacher was saying. I was never good in school, but I would almost always have the best grade in class when it came to an art project. I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career that would involve creativity whether it was painting, photography, graphic design, etc.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I create all kinds of art but producing music is my main focus. I believe my ear for music sets me apart from others, I know how to create a vibe or a mood with music which is arguably the most important thing in my opinion. In the past few years I’ve been blessed enough to work with some of my favorite artists from Houston, something I’ve always wanted to do but never thought I would accomplish. It was never easy to reach the point I’m at in life, there were many times I had given up on music because I thought I wasn’t good enough or that it wouldn’t go anywhere as people would tell me. Now I’m working with some of my favorite artist, and am one of the founders of BlackBox Studios. Let’s just say, I’m glad I didn’t listen to those people! One thing I want the world to take away from my story is that you shouldn’t ever let someone talk you out of your dreams. You have one life, are you really going to let someone else dictate what you should or shouldn’t do?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
All of my friends for the most part have the same interests. We’ll go eat, go play basketball, then hit Black Box Studios. I went for the first time in March and it was the best experience I’ve ever had at a museum. It was very inspiring for me to see all of the artifacts and the history behind them. My most favorite part of the museum had to be the LED lights exhibit, it was perfect for pictures on Instagram. After the museum we have to go eat at one of three options: Waffle Bus, Main Chick, or Pho Ben! And of course for desert we’d have to go to Sleek to get some waffles with nutella dripped all over them! I love eating ice cream from Marble Slab, also another ice cream spot I found that’s lowkey and underrated, Connies Custard! As far as restaurants and food places in Houston I’m familiar with most of them, but there’s still some places I haven’t been to yet. One thing about me and my friends is that if we hang out, we have to take hard ass pictures for the gram so that means we have to be at a dope spot. The Graffiti park was where I had my first actual photoshoot done and it was by far the best one. I’ve taken really cool pictures at places like Sanman Studios, The Museum of Fine Arts, Buffalo Bayou Park, The Menil had to be my favorite of all though.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would first and foremost like to thank God for all of the ups and downs He put me through. No matter how bad times were He always pushed me through them, shaping me into who I am today. He also blessed me with wonderful people, it would be unfair for me to give only a few names of those who have helped me or supported me, there are so many great people who I have came across in my life that have helped me and supported me, they know who they are.
