We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Bryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kim, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice I do not agree with is “There’s a right time for everything” Being ready is a matter of perspective. I Definitely feel you should at least have a rough outline of how you will achieve your goals but there’s never a right time. You just have to go for it and do it full throttle. Many opportunities have been missed on my part by feeling like I was not ready or capable to take on what was in front of me. I wont ever make those same mistakes. Haven’t you ever heard “Fortune Favors the Brave?”
What should our readers know about your business?
We are a 24 hour warehouse style gym. Our goal is to provide an environment to not only get better physically but also mentally. Once you walk through the doors you will immediately feel this difference in the standard that we set. Our friendly staff and trainers are here to assist and guide you to the goals you have set for yourself. Our members are key in maintaining a consistent vibe throughout both locations. If you are not here to be better or help someone else become better you’re in the wrong spot. We do not tolerate disrespect or Laziness in gym etiquette. it is required that you rerack your weights, it is required that you clean up after yourself. Our goal is to constantly thrive at being the best for our members and ourselves.
As with any business there are often challenges. Working together with your spouse and going home trying to leave work at work never happens. the phone is always ringing and there is always a problem that needs addressed immediately. Its exhausting at times but this is what we signed up for and will continue to take on.
What I am most proud of is being able to see how quickly we were able to grow the brand Getting to watch the transformations in not only aesthetics but overall happiness in members has also been so rewarding. seeing our daughters name and legacy live on through the club will always be my favorite part of diving in.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most of my friends have kiddos as well so I’m sure this would be a family filled adventure. Our family loves going to the Rockstar Energy Bike Park, We would a[end a few hours on bmx bikes then head out for lunch. Anywhere with queso and Margaritas is usually our go to. Cyclone Anayas and Uncle Julios are a few faves.
Anywhere scenic to get a good cruise in on my husband Harley is also one of my most cherished past times. its the only time that my mind is clear. I feel anything that feeds your soul and allows your mind to chill for a bit is vital in a successful business partnership.
I highly recommend doing something active and not being stuck inside behind a screen for optimal mental clarity.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This would obviously go out to my Husband Q. Starting a gym was always his dream. In 2016 we had our daughter Scarlet prematurely. She was with us for only six short days. After dealing with so much grief we decided to just go for it. At the time we lived in Katy, TX. My husband pulled all of his retirement out of his 401K and We sold our home to move in with Q’s dad to be able to fund our startup and then The Scarlet Barbell Club was born. We are now coming up on four years in business, with about 2000 members between two locations. I could not be be more proud of the self sacrifice and hard work that has allowed us to be where we are today.
