Meet Kimara | Master stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimara, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I have a habit of speaking to EVERYONE and complimenting people on their hair, and when they say thank you, and disagree, it allows me to start a conversation with them and give them my opinion on how I can get them to see what I see. For example: “You have BEAUTIFUL HAIR!” And they may say “well thank you, but I need a haircut, or color etc”. That opens the door to introduce myself as a stylist, share my Instagram of my work, and offer services to them right then and there.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I became a stylist at Ulta beauty Nov 2019, I chose to work at Ulta because it was a great way to showcase my talents while converting new people from all around the world under one roof! Everyone loves ULTA, and people shops there for a lot of their beauty needs. It was difficult at first because coming from Ohio I mainly specialize in ethnic hair and Sewin extensions, so to do even a basic blowout was challenging for me at first. So what I did was offer everyone who was interested a $15 off first time service coupon, that’s how I got them to sit in my chair. So because I couldn’t do a blowout I started there first and mastered it! My first blowout was a complete failure, the client was so upset with me, but I didn’t give up. I kept introducing myself and kept giving out discounts. I worked on achieving the look they desired first , then I came up with a strategy to work on my timing. Now I can do a blowout in 30-45min!(depending on length and density of the hair) However giving up was not an option. So I want everyone to know when you have a passion for something keep going don’t focus on the bad , always find the good, look for the weakness and get strong. Stay focused and positive and NEVER give up!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So the location I work is in town and country, Beautiful location! Many places to go shopping and it’s near City centre where there’s tons of different restaurants, and even a movie theatre there! So if my best friend came to visit we would most like hang out around there not to mention Memorial Mall is also very close by as well.
