We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I love doing beauty and sfx makeup. I started my business/my career because I wanted to continue to do this. Money was never a issue for me I just wanted to spend my time doing what I love and continue to grow at it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been doing beauty makeup for years and one day, I talked to a friend in Atlanta and he told me he has seen a lot of my makeup work and I should think about doing makeup for film projects. I started to research how to get started on film projects. I looked up makeup artists, joined Facebook film groups and started posting and introducing myself. I got a call to do makeup for my first film project in Columbia, SC they
wanted to also teach me how to do special effects makeup. I started to learn a few things about special effects makeup and I started getting calls for projects in Georgia, NC, SC and Texas. I worked on short films, features, commercials, music videos and photoshoots. I really enjoy working on photo shoots and film projects being creative, meeting new people. I hope to be doing
this a long time, this is definitely a dream come true. I’ve been able to work with some amazing people that I never thought I’d meet like Deon Richmond, Mo’Nique, Charnele Brown, Robert Lasardo, ESG and Rod Wave to name a few.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the restaurants here, there are so many great ones. Pappa’s Burgers and Pappadeaux are definitely my favorites. I also love Goode Company barbecue for brisket. I also love going to the Galleria mall there is definitely something there for everyone and you could spend the whole day there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Bridgit Crider is a amazing award winning makeup artist that helped me in the beginning on my journey as a makeup artist. I found her online and I had tons of questions about how to get started in the film industry and she was happy to answer them.
