We had the good fortune of connecting with KALVIN KOSHA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KALVIN, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My professional (work) life includes a new Medical Sales career, acting, recording and performing arts, Directing the Do-WAP Agency, L.L.C., and owning my own company; Everything Kosha LLC.
I used to look for ways to fill my calendar. I had more time to spend on everything but the things I’d rather be doing. These days, after having launched a wine brand (Honeywater Moscato: @koshawines), becoming represented by a talent agency (Upward Artistry), maintaining a Marketing-Communications and Events firm (Do-WAP Agency, L.L.C.), a musical album, acting career, and registering Everything Kosha LLC, my calendar gets filled with opportunities without having to think about it. Oftentimes, I have to force myself to remember that I have family and friends who deserve my time and attention.
I feel blessed to be a part of so many projects, have paid opportunities to perform in and out of Houston, TX, sell my products, and help to produce projects that incorporate so many creatives and business professionals within the city. The goal is to eventually live day by day, earning a living doing the things that I love, employ others, and effortlessly earning money, even while I sleep.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart would have to be my versatility. I don’t have a “lane”. All thanks to my mother and father, I learned what real music sounds like at an early age. Being influenced by the greatest artists ever, including Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, Ronald Isley, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, and more, has helped to shape my sound and what I love to sing about. I could go on for days naming influences, but then you’d all know my secret. Haha. People have always remarked, “How does such a big voice come out of such a little body?” I’ve been singing and performing all of my life; since the age of 5. Leading church selections, school choirs, participating in talent shows, and even joining the Houston Children’s Chorus in elementary school catapulted my “10,000 hours” of becoming a master, in which I am ever-endeavoring to become.
I began recording music in the 10th grade. This led to paid gigs in and out of my city. Today, I’m an independent artist, working with my manager/mentor: W Anthony Patton (Do-WAP Agency/Records), to produce projects around music, marketing, media, and events. And, the Upward Artistry Talent Agency has begun a new phase in catapulting my acting career. I soft-launched my debut album, titled, “Pressure”, along with my debut wine brand: Honeywater Moscato by Everything Kosha LLC (in partnership with Signature Sipz LLC) on the night of my birthday, December 19, 2020. The people showed up and it was a real vibe; a concert full of people who love and support Kosha. The project consists of several vibes; the fusion of sexy R&B, Pop, and Hip-Hop, to highlight the pressures of love and life in various aspects. It’s my goal to remain true to what feels good. Therefore, I almost always sing and write about love, affection, and what inspires me. Ultimately, I believe that words are somewhat like “spells”, and music is the magician. And, it’s our duty as artists to motivate and inspire our listeners to experience the joys and wonders of life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
