We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Nichols and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimberly, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I honestly found this very hard in the beginning. Raising three very active boys while trying to simultaneously cook, clean, record, edit, plate pretty enough for a good picture and so much more that goes into content creating, can be tiring. After about 2 years of doing it, it started to become a bit easier. My sons try to help now, they know when I am recording and when I need space to do so! But then I also have to throw in being active duty military of over 13 years. The balance has definitely changed over time but it seems the more success my brand gets, the more the balance becomes shaky. Recently I have started to reach out for assistance, hiring people to help me, to make my plate a bit lighter.
What should our readers know about your business?
Kimmy’s Kreations has just officially became a business this year under the name Kimmy Kreates LLC. For the last 2 years I have been running solo. Posting content, negotiating brand deals, recording, editing and so much more. But by doing it by myself I have gained over 3 million followers across 4 social media platforms combined. I think that sets me out a bit different than my colleagues, being able to maintain the level of engagement on 4 different platforms. It was never easy to get there but it sure was fun. I love to cook and bake so honestly creating comes a bit easy for me. I don’t sit down for days thinking of new ideas because it comes so naturally for me. I have learned a lot of lessons and I continue to grow and expand each day. I’ve learned not to interact with or respond to the trolls, they are only there to try and bring you out of character. I’ve learned not to dwell over views and how many likes a certain post has, because the RIGHT person can see it and you can have a brand deal for Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray or Johnsonville in your email the next day. I want the world to know, I started my brand from scratch. I didn’t have a viral video kick start me to start recording and posting. I woke up one day and decided this is what I wanted to do and I worked hard from that day to build my brand up. I posted all the time even when I had 30 subscribers on YouTube. If you are to look further back on my YouTube, Instagram, and tiktok, you will see a lot of videos that you wouldn’t believe is from me lol. I left those up there for a reason. It shows where I started and how far I have come. And it inspire others that may be at where I was when I decide to start.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I am not from houston but I can not wait to go out there and visit! I cant wait to visit and try turkey leg hut, Ostia, Turners, The Breakfast Klub and so much more. I am sure my friend and fellow content creator Kolby Kash will be wholesome and show me the ropes.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a few people that I would love to shoutout for making Kimmy’s Kreations what it is today. First it will go to my three beautiful sons! They are the reason I love to create! From making their birthday cakes every year, trying to find new dishes that they will enjoy, crafting them gifts, it all goes to them. I am who I am because of them! Second, I would love to shout out my close knit friends, who I have called family since we have been friends for over a decade. Cheyenne, Lasharveah, and Brannan. We talk everyday and they have helped me so much and have been so supportive since I launched my YouTube almost 2 years ago! Also I would love to shout out a few other chefs and foodies. I watch @deepfriedhoney on instagram for months before I had the courage to start recording my meals. She gave me inspiration without even knowing. I would also like to thank the foodie group that I talk to every day. We sometimes call ourselves the “Big Cheffas” lol but they inspire and motivate me every single day to keep pushing content and to go even beyond just content, but to get my LLC (Thank you @_mrmakeithappen_), to hire a virtual assistant, open up a seasoning line, and so much more that is to come.
