We had the good fortune of connecting with Krysten Mabry LCDC-I , E-RYT 500, YACEP, RPYT and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krysten, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a child I knew that I wanted to help others. I originally wanted to become a nurse but after being kidnapped in the early 2000’s I decided that I wanted to help others who have been trough trauma. I opened YogaStrong as a specialty studio specializing in mental health, chronic pain, and weigh loss.
I am currently a crisis counselor, licensed chemical dependency counselor intern, life coach, yoga therapist, yoga instructor, and studio owner. I earned my associates degree in Psychology from San Jac Central in 2012, BS-Psychology and BS-Anthropology from University of Houston Clear Lake in 2016, and I am currently in graduate school working towards my Masters in Social Work.
My goal with YogaStrong is to provide support to folks from all walks of life in a non-judgmental, healthy, and trauma informed space. We also offer a sliding scale for those in need and often give back to the community with fundraiser events and food drives.
What should our readers know about your business?
There are several things that set YogaStrong apart:
We believe yoga should be accessible to all so we have created a Giving Guru Karma sliding scale program for those in need. We have pricing options to fit all budgets.
We are open late and have both group classes and private sessions available as late as 8:30pm. We understand that folks who work need to have access to our services so we make sure to have late times available.
YogaStrong prides its self in being the only specialty studio in the area that specializes in mental health, chronic pain, and weight loss. We have expert staff members for each of our specialties. We are so much more than just a yoga studio. We are a true one stop shop. We offer several different yoga and fitness classes. Here is a list of our current group classes:
Yoga:
Therapeutic Yoga & Meditation
Restorative Yoga
Beginners Yoga/Flow
Intermediate Yoga/Flow
Strong Flow
Advanced HOT Flow
Therapeutic Heated Gentle Flow
Yoga for Jesus
Fitness:

*Please see our website for class descriptions and class schedule.
We also offer several different private sessions that compliment our three specialties. The private sessions we offer are:
Yoga Therapy
Life Coaching
Personal Training
Nutrition Counseling
Meditation
Yoga
Chakra Healing
*To learn more about our private sessions please visit the “private Sessions” tab on our website.
After I was kidnapped in my early 20’s I developed PTSD, agoraphobia, depression, and anxiety. I began private sessions with a yoga therapist and started taking group yoga classes. I quickly found that the symptoms caused by the mental health issues I had developed lessened. My goal is to offer these services to others so that they can find relief like I did.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love historical homes and buildings. I would recommend touring the historical homes in Galveston. There are several but my favorites are Moody Mansion and Bishops Palace. Fun fact: I got married at Moody Mansion and wore a non-traditional 1800’s dress that was burgundy and black.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends and family have supported me during my long journey with my education and with the studio. My husband, Darin, has been understanding with my busy schedule as a graduate student and studio owner. There have been many times he has helped me out with things around the house to help lighten the load. My best friend and studio manager, Lacey Curry, has been there almost from the beginning and offers me continued support and encouragement along with being the best studio manager. My biggest supporters are the studio members. Our members are more than just members, they are family.
