We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyli Boyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyli, how do you think about risk?
For me taking a risk was really how I ended up in my career today. I have always been a part of the beauty industry since getting my esthetician license in 2016. Only part time though. My day to day job was in an office. I hated it. I thrive in a creative environment which is hard to do in a cubicle. When I decided to start doing cosmetic tattoos that’s when I just said “alright let’s see where this goes” I just kind of went for it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art and creativity is what I live for. It’s an everyday thing for me. Whether it be drawing or doing brows I could do it for for hours and be perfectly content. Which made this the perfect career for me to get into. Being able to create a custom set of brows for each client is so exciting to me. Seeing what accents their beauty/style and bringing it to life truly makes me happy. Which is why I believe I was able to get to the point of my career today (not only from having amazing support and mentors) but really having a passion for what I do. It’s something I never get bored of and I think if you find a career your always excited about it is exactly what you should be doing. It’s definitely not easy and still isn’t today. Owning your own business is like 10 jobs in one. It’s constant. I’ve learned you really have to learn to find that work to home balance and I’m still learning things everyday.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am fairly new to Houston myself and moved here about 4 years ago so I am definitely still learning a lot. Usually if I have a friend visiting we just chill for the most part. Maybe go shopping, thrifting at some of neat thrift shops in Houston, find a trail, head to the beach, really just anything that catches our eye. There’s so much to do it’s a little overwhelming for someone who is normally a homebody in their free time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to thank my family. For supporting me and my mom especially. She saw my passion for the beauty industry and had mentioned taking a Microblading course @ Perfect 10 beauty bar. Leading to my next thank you to my instructor Logan @ Perfect 10. Logan was an amazing teacher and still continues the support to this day!
