We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Theriot and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kylie, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
Having grown up seeing my Dad follow his dreams touring the globe as a blues musician, I know how impactful that can be on my own children. Having them see me be my own boss, make my own hours in order to spend more with them, and do something I love is priceless. I want them to know that they can do or be anything they desire, but also want to show them that it does take hard work in order to get to where you want to be.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a single mom of three who has overcome many things in the span of my career by putting in the time, hard-work, and simply believing in myself. Many things that could’ve made me throw in the towel. Between Covid-19, a divorce, and having to relocate over 300+ miles due to a hurricane, I have had to completely start from square one with my clientele. I took it as a chance for a fresh start and look at what I do with totally new eyes. Since relocating I’ve been steadily building a name for myself in the area by making sure each client has a customized experience. You are not just another date in my book. I am genuinely excited each and every time I get to be a part of telling their stories and you can find me right next to their loved ones sobbing as they say their vows and “I do’s”. I’ve been in this industry since 2016 and to this day each and every event and shoot feels like it’s the first time and I think that’s what has kept this so fun for so long. There have been many sleepless nights and many hurdles to jump, but to be able to leave something behind for not only my children, but capture so many memories for other families just fills my entire cup.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
McKinney Falls and Kemah Boardwalk make for an awesome road trip and fun time. The Museum of Natural Science is something I can go to over and over again. We would definitely hit up St Arnold Brewing company for some brews and relaxing. Pinkerton’s Bbq is our next stop because their food is to die for and no one does bbq like Texas! And as always a good stand up comedy club like The Riot for some big belly laughs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and fellow photography community deserve a huge shoutout in terms of getting me to where I am now. My mother has always encouraged me to pick up my camera and make it into more than a hobby. Both of my parents brought me up in the arts/music world and being able to see so many talented people turning their passions into careers really gave me the confidence I needed to do the same. From the very start of this journey, I was welcomed with open arms into this community and the friendships I’ve made have kept me going.
