We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcela De la paz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcela, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want people to think of me and think happiness. I want them to know that everything is possible when you do it with dedication and a smile. I’ve learn over the years to keep my peace no matter what’s going on around me, even during hard times I am smiling. I remain calm because I know that everything is going to be okay. Things that are meant to happen, happen. Happiness is a decision we should all make daily.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Afro-Latina from Cali- Colombia who is eager to show the world what we are all about. I created Miss Sabor Latina with the purpose of showing people we are talented and deserve to be seen. An Afro-Latina/o is a Latin person with African American descents. We are people of color who speak Spanish and some of us don’t even speak English. Part of the world don’t know we even exist. We are not featured in Spanish television or English because of our strong accent. My goal is to show the world that we deserve a space in in it and to be recognized.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would most definitely go to Las delicias” for breakfast. They have the best pandebonos you could ever have. A pandebono is a colombian breakfast bread and it’s amazing along with some great Empanadas. For Lunch I would take them to “Paisa twins” A restaurant in Richmond Avenue for a good chicken stew and Pappadeux for dinner I love their seafood is amazing and don’t forget the swamthing to drink. I love hanging out at city centre is actually one of my favorite places to visit. You find peace and everything you are looking for is around the corner.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success comes with the help of so many people, from the person who believes in you to the person who babysit your children so you can make your dreams come true. In my case I have so many people to be thankful for. My mom for believing in me. My aunt Magaly Cortes for watching my son during my business trips, Elva Trevino owner of Champions club for her constant work on making sure I am fit And stay focus and last but not least AH productionz for accommodating to my schedule to make our media creations. I’m so grateful for them and everyone else who have helped through this journey.
