Meet Kyriq | Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyriq and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyriq, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I feel like artistry found me more than I found it. Growing up, I was surrounded by music my mom played—artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Outkast, D’Angelo, and Lauryn Hill. Their music always made me feel something deeper, and I developed a strong connection to that emotion early on.
That connection led me to start writing poetry and eventually songs. At first it was just a way to express myself, but things started to shift in college. I entered a couple of rap contests, ended up winning both, and even received some label interest. That experience made me realize music wasn’t just a hobby—it was something I should truly pursue. From that point on, I decided to take my craft seriously, dive deeper into my artistry, and focus on honing my skills as an artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart as an artist is my approach to creating. My process is very feeling-oriented, and I try not to box myself into a predictable sound or formula. I focus on making music that evokes emotion—something that makes people feel something the moment they press play. That emotional connection is always my priority.
Getting to where I am today has really been about resilience and staying the course. Like most creatives, there have been moments where I’ve considered stepping away from music, but I’ve continued pushing forward—especially because of the love and support from my fans and hearing how my music impacts them. Those moments remind me why I started in the first place.
Interestingly, creating the music itself has always been the easiest part for me. The more challenging side is the business—figuring out how to monetize your work, grow your brand, market yourself, and navigate the industry. When progress in those areas feels slow, it can be discouraging, but that’s when you really have to trust yourself and stay committed to the vision.
Along the way, I’ve faced a variety of challenges—from simple scheduling delays to more complicated situations involving relationships within the industry. In those moments, I try to rely on patience, compassion, and perspective so I can take a breath and keep moving forward.
More than anything, I want people to know that I see myself as being in service to my fans. I’m incredibly grateful for all the support and opportunities that have come my way. There’s also a lot more music and content on the horizon, including collaborations with Cwiswho and Giannis.co—both incredibly talented and hardworking creatives. I’m excited for what’s coming next.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m still working on getting outside more myself. But one spot I really like is POST Houston. It’s an old post office that was transformed into a massive food hall, and the variety of food options there is honestly ridiculous—you can find just about anything.
Outside of that, I keep things pretty simple. I enjoy playing basketball, going to live shows, and fishing when I get the chance. I wouldn’t say I’m out and about all the time, but those are definitely some of the things I like to do when I step away from the music. I probably should get outside more though—shame on me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A lot of my growth and success is thanks to the people and communities that invested in me along the way. One of the biggest influences was PATH (Preserving, Archiving and Teaching Hip-Hop). It’s an organization dedicated to teaching hip-hop culture to young people and showing the life skills, discipline, and opportunities that can come from it. I actually received a scholarship to attend PATH after winning a talent competition, and that experience completely changed my life. It’s where I really began to focus on honing my skills as an MC, so I’m incredibly grateful to Nathalie and Brimstone for the impact they had on my journey.
I’d also like to acknowledge Voices Poetry Group at Florida A&M University. Being part of that community helped me strengthen both my writing and performance skills. It also gave me the confidence to really step into my voice as an artist and build a following on campus.
Another huge thank you goes to my manager, Duke, who has supported my career, helped me land performance opportunities, and played a key role in helping me grow my audience.
And finally, I have to thank my family and friends. Their constant support—coming to shows, buying merch, and believing in what I do—means the world to me and continues to motivate me to keep pushing my artistry forward.
