We had the good fortune of connecting with Landan Juarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Landan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business is quite simple, I like my time, I also like money, and I am not very well receptive to authority. Since I was twelve years old, I have had a business mindset, my answer to the question of what I want to be when I grow up was always an entrepreneur. I remember many times throughout my teenage life, I had experimented with ways to make money on my laptop. I was hired onto my first real job at fifteen, I made barely anything yet I worked late into the night in an often demanding and negative environment. Very quickly I learned this was not for me. Since then I have had my fair share of part-time jobs and the conclusion has always been the same, I will never be happy working for someone else. Happiness is my ultimate life goal, so obviously the next step was to cultivate a way to be my own boss. The opportunity to become a Real Estate Agent fell right into my lap one could say, and writing this I am still beyond grateful. Real Estate has changed my life in ways words do not do justice. Simply put, I only have this one life as far as I know and I refuse to be limited in any way.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a young Real Estate Agent working in one of the nation’s most intense and large markets, Houston Texas. I have learned many lessons in my short time as an active licensee. This industry alike many others has its number of challenges and it’s ups and downs. One could say my own obstacles are my lack of experience in not only Real Estate but life itself as I am not even old enough to drink. I am sure many fellow agents have their doubts and beliefs about me and, my clients as well. However, I actively choose to focus on what I am in control of. Which is providing a service-based client experience that anyone who works with me will remember for years to come. I am one to always play to his strengths, that being my mature beyond my years yet happy-go-lucky personality and drive for a better life. What anyone should know about me is that I am in love with the life I am living and I truly believe anything is possible for those who want it badly enough. That is and always will be my brand. What will always set me apart from others is that I want to see everyone win, my clients and even my competitors.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The beauty of our home Houston Texas, is the countless opportunities and places to be. Even Houston’s natives have somewhere new to explore and experience constantly. What comes first to mind when asked about my favorite spot in town is of course, Montrose. Just below The Houston Heights another personal favorite and where my current office is located. Montrose is home to the Empire Cafe which I adore, the energy and the scenery, right on Westheimer with free parking. How could you ask for more? Come to Montrose at night and you will not be disappointed, countless memories of nights out just after my eighteenth birthday on the gay club scene. Here you will find community and acceptance, I must say Blur Bar will always have my teenage heart. Sometimes you just want to forget everything, be with your kind of people, and have the time of your life that you may or may not remember in the morning, nothing in life excites me more. I must also do justice by again mentioning Westheimer Rd which offers a Brandy Melville, Apple Store, RA Sushi Bar, and many more of my favorite places to be. On days when I am feeling a bit less party and more creative, I find myself in Houston’s Museum District which offers the Museum of Natural Science and Museum of Fine Arts which has free admission on Thursdays. One of the coolest things I have experienced with my friends here was the Fine Arts planetarium, and not too far away is the Cockrell Butterfly Center. With so much to do and so little time, here in Houston it is impossible to find yourself bored in any way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am always one to give credit where credit is due, when asked who has helped me on this journey quite a few names come to mind. To start from the very beginning I would like to give the biggest shoutout to my high school teacher and great friend Mrs. Stephanie D’Angelo. I could not be more grateful to be placed in her classroom as she has not only been an incredible instructor but one of my biggest supporters every step of the way. Without her offer to pursue a career in Real Estate, I am unsure of where I would be now in the present moment.
I must also give a big shoutout to local Houston Agent and Broker, Deborah Villarreal with whom I closed on my very first off-market deal before I had even obtained my license. Debbie has taught me so much about this industry and held my hand every step of the way. I remember the feeling of depositing my very first cash check, I had never seen so much money in my life and here it was right in my hands. It is very safe to say that without her I would not have this experience that has since shifted the projection of my future.
